Being an exReason user, I have toyed with the idea of using other modular environments. What I liked about Reason was the way the user can patch up fancy audio and cv connections between units. For me, a major flaw of Reason is that it doesn't provide really modular units, like a dedicated lfo or filter unit.

Other modular environments address that problem. Two nice ones include Karmasynth and Blok.

I really liked Karmasynth as it allows for some cool patches using the sample player as an oscillator, and the GUI is pretty sexy imo.

Zephod Blok looked interesting too, although it seemed limited compared to some of the other modular environments.

Reaktor 5.5 is looking sweet, although I won't use it as I have bought Synthedit and would prefer to be able to export vsts for sale than be limited to the Reaktor environment.
