Anyone honestly feeling Juke?

I'm not talking about Footcrab or Work them or IRL, I'm talking about the new DJ Nate EP on Planet Mu or the DJ Rashad stuff (audio here http://www.planet.mu/discography/ZIQ285). Just seems relentless and overly repetitive, bit boring and annoying. Am I just not getting it? I'm not being quick to judge, spent quite alot of time listening to what I can and still can't get it.

kind of, its definitely overly vocal, doesn't seem to drop, i think thats why the blend between the dubstep producers and the juke style works nice ,they know how to build tunes to my tastes in a way, and the juke influence on tracks like footcrab etc. have a freshness other dubstep doesn't have

i dont think the track you posted is THAT bad, but i couldnt listen to more than two or three of them unless they were mixed rapid-fire, i think if that was the case i'd get pretty hyped about it, lots of cuts between tracks n that

I like it a bit. Does tend to get a bit boring quicky though. It's a pretty repetitive genre as far as I see

Agree with this. Maybe it would help to hear a few juke tunes generally acknowledged as 'good juke'- would clear it up a bit. I have no idea whether ive heard the poor stuff or the good stuff (in which case im not a juke fan atm).

Also been wondering how the juke/dubstep tunes like footcrab were recieved in places where juke is hot. I know its unlikely footcrabs been heard by Footworkers in Chicago but would be interesting if they did.

It's grown on me. I'm still not a fan of 95% of DJ Nate's stuff. The new Rashad clips sound pretty cool.

I'll take B-more club over juke any day though.

I've been a fan for years, so I'm biased. A decade ago, I saw DJ Funk massacre a crowd with track after track of headsplitters. I think it's hard to get an idea of how these play out without hearing them within the context of a quickly mixed DJ sets. The tracks, on their own, do get repetitive; but if you are DJing juke and you are letting a track run for more than 90 seconds, you are doing it all wrong.

Also, I've been saying this for awhile, but besides all of the rimshots in some of the newer juke/dubstep hybrids like 'Work Them', et al - the tracks are much more in line with electro than juke.

it's all about the quickness....

maybe it's a stateside thing because its basically double time hip hop?

or because it came from a mixing of b-more, booty house and footwork?

With DJ Nate and the rest of the footwork guys, it's honestly about going crazy with the dance. Their sound is a whole lot darker than proper "juke." Check out Headhunters juke mix from last year for something a bit more accessible and fun.

i only like the footwork style (nate, rashad etc) in fast mixes, otherwise it does get repetitive but will probably cop that nate planet mu lp anyway. the less dark, more 4x4 style of juke is easier to enjoy track for track which is why things like footcrab and work them go over so well.

Yeah feel "Juke" over "Footwork".
