sidechaining and roll-offs

hi y'all. noob here.
just wondering if anybody on here could tell me what you mean by "rolling off" frequencies. also, can anyone explain to me what sidechaining is?

rolling off is about eq'ing certain frequencies completely off the chart. For example, in your mid-range leads, you'll more than likely roll-off the bass (anything less than 100hz, sometimes higher).
Sidechaining is about taking a signal from another instrument and using that to control another. A good example of this is ducking the bass by using the kick drum as the input.

sidechaining is when you take a sound source and use it to trigger an fx on something else.. most common kick and bass! you'll sidechain the kick to the compressor on the bass.. so that when the signal from the kick hits the compressor it compresses the bass, lowering the level of the bass to let the kick punch threw!
