Yeah, a lot of what I hear as more "traditional" dubstep sounds a lot like what we were calling dub back in the 1990's (think Bill Laswell, and that whole crew). Hence the reference to "dub"DZA wrote:Sounds more like dubstep than dub to me
some dubstep producers use dub as a strong influence, yes, but "traditional dubstep" is a pretty loose term. i wouldn't say loefah's tunes for example, sound anything like dubtekfro wrote:Yeah, a lot of what I hear as more "traditional" dubstep sounds a lot like what we were calling dub back in the 1990's (think Bill Laswell, and that whole crew). And this is definitely not that (whatever you want to call it)
sometimes we call weedsacks "dubs" (i.e. 20's). just words.parson wrote:the kids calling dubstep dub know that dub is it's own genre but they also know that amongst their scenester pals it's short for dubstep
sorta like maybe calling weed "smoke".
also like how the internet calls mp3s dubs

yup. most people don't care enough about real "dub" to not call dubstep "dub" for short.parson wrote:the kids calling dubstep dub know that dub is it's own genre but they also know that amongst their scenester pals it's short for dubstep
