buy Sennheiser monitoring headphones
best brand ever!
i was in a simliar position as you 3 months ago i was using £7 sony earphones haha..
then i bought a second hand pair of Sennheiser HD650 for £170 and iv never regretted it (apart from it making me broke lol)
it totally helped me clear up my music.. once u hav good headphones just read up all u can in the production bible and your tunes will sound nice & clear as needed

maybe the HD 428 or HD 448 will be good for you, they are accurate headphones & cost between £50-£100 (or less) have a look on ebay or amazon for them.

I'm gonna divert this a little, but still related.
Can anyone recommend some good in-ear headphones, they are not gonna replace monitors for mixing but just give me a decent response of my levels with good bass response when writing. The reason I ask is, I have a pair of HD-25's but wearing them for more than an hour at a time makes my ears melt to the point my head feels it's on fire and I want to throw up and I have had to stop making tune through the night because of this. My budget is up to about £60 maybe £70. Cheers

AKG K81's are pretty good, friend of mine has been DJing with em for a year now. I'm thinking about buying those.

Edit: Don't know anything about in-ears.

I respect your opinion from all the stuff you posted on doa and on here, and well..... are these headphones really worth buying if you i already have semi decent headphones? I know you recommend them time and time again, but would you rate them better than the £130 beyerdynamic dt 770 pros for mix downs?
you probably been asked this alot haha....

If it's cos of the sound, turn them down.
If it's cos of the comfort (or lack of), get some circumaural headphones rather than in-ears. Like the 280 pro

sound on sound did not say they were, "the best budget headphones." they said they were "the best budget closed-back headphones"
but they did say this
Overall, while the HD280 is a worthy mix tool, I preferred the tonality of the DT250 and K240 MkII and would personally go for those first.
K240's > HD280 imo & sos.

I stand corrected.
I couldn't stand the K240s when I tried them, so horses for courses and all that
