Weird Logic Problem- sudden delayed MIDI response

I was working on a track, adding automation for various effects and when I got to the breakdown section I noticed one of the effects sounds was out of sync. I selected the track and manually played it from a keyboard (it's a small EXS24 bank) and got a delay of around 1/16th-1/8th between hitting the key and hearing the sound. I tried some other tracks and got the same result - the other tracks were using Ultrabeat, Phatmatik Pro, ES2 and various other instruments. It can't be a track-specific setting like the "Delay" parameter as it affects all tracks. I can't see anything in the project settings, and I've removed all plugins from the master channel.

The weird thing is if I load an earlier version of the same track it's fine - same instruments, same presets everything. It's like some sort of project-wide setting has been changed that's introduced a MIDI delay of some kind. Anyone have any ideas what could have changed? I could have hit some key command accidentally but no idea what.

Looks like I might just have to try and copy the tracks with the new automation over to the working version of the project?

i'm starting to get pissed off with logic too.

ever since logic 7, i've been having some weird problems during playback. tape delay feedback completely stopping for no reason, then randomly starting again. filters making a weird popping noise a bar or so before there's supposed to be any sort of sound from that particular channel ect.

do these types of things happen on cubase/pro tools too?

At the OP - have you got plug in delay compensation on in the preferences?
Logic does do some weird things when you try automating a few parameters occasionally (which is well annoying).
I'm still using logic but been writing most stuff in ableton recently but that's not perfect by a long stretch either. Better automation but live 8 is still unstable as of 1.1.5 (still) and crashes and does all kinds of weird shit when i have my virus ti going through it and i lost about an hours work yesterday when it crashed. (Live automatically reloads it from your undo history but it still loses all the VST parameters ie the synth sounds i'd spent ages making)
Felt like punching the computer screen. Leant a lesson though about needing to save every 2 seconds in live though.

@ Wikum - also a very annoying bug in logic is that tape delay thing. Has been there since logic 8 . It only happens for me when it's audio files on the channel and the tape delay is an insert rather than a send - try it as a send and see if that fixes it.

Actually it could have been around since 7 idk
Also that pop/click sound is the audio buffer crapping itself. Try having the buffer a bit bigger - 256/512

Cheers - that's a few things to check. I've never used the plugin delay compensation, is that a Logic-wide setting? If so, would be weird if it affected one project and not others. It was after automating about 4 different effects so maybe that caused it. I could try bouncing the track and re-adding it or something - and maybe copying the track to the working version of project to see if it breaks it.
I'll have to move my tape delays around as well, I think I have one or two as inserts.

I'll see what happens.. If I can fix it, I might have a "my first dubstep attempt" post up at some point... :D

I'm such an idiot. I forgot that I'd added a reverb on a send just before the problem happened - then wanted to EQ the reverb and decided to poke around the linear phase EQ because I've never used it... As soon as I removed it and swapped it for a normal EQ it was fine.

Idiot.

@chewie thanks for those tips. I'd already figured that the bus channel fixed the problem....but sometimes i don't wanna have to use a bus. sometimes i just want it to work how it's supposed to. i wasn't aware it was a known bug with like EVERYONE lol.

thanks for the buffer tip too.
