just interested, does have dubplates nowadays? or how many of you just burn your tracks straight to cds? i've never had any of my tunes cut to acetate or vinyl, so wondering if anyone still does this. my goal is to have at least 1 dubplate for myself even if it means forking out 30 quid..

Ive been telling myself im gonna get something cut for the past year, still not got round to doing it tho

I've got about 18 dublates cut, some my own tunes from my jungle DnB days but never got around to cutting a dubstep tune.

yeah, i hope the option will always be there, i don't have any cdjs or serato, so atm it would be the only option anyway

Have not yet, will without a doubt do it. Even if no one wants play it, just being able to hold your tune on acetate or vinyl would be amazing.

I got my first dub cut last year, absolutely love it! Its acetate though so i try and only play it when i need to.

Getting a couple cut soon, I really don't get on with CDJs when using vinyl as well.

It just comes down to what medium you prefer, ive tried to get along with CDJs but I just can't (well not yet, seein as I don't have any to practice on).

I'm going to cut dubs till I can afford a pair of CDJs. Money isn't really an issue when you think of it....If you play out at least once a month and you ain't dropping your own tunes... an average of 1200-1500 people (thinking if you're playing 100-300 capacity clubs) are missing out hearing YOUR stuff a year... Spending £120 to cut 8 of your tunes is a wise investment.

More people than you think.We still cut quite a few plates daily.

I've had a few cut for myself but I can't really be arsed for most tunes, it's mainly for novelty.. it sure is great playing a record with your own music on it though!

acetates wearing out quickly is actually a complete myth, play that shit as much as you want!

all about dubs! cant beat the first few plays of an acetate! i second that about them wearing out in a few plays, not true! still playing dubs from a couple years ago which sound fine! cant beat it!

Its not a myth people just ABUSE them and thats what leads to it... Backcueing and wheeling and storing them on thier sides halfway through 80 record stacks and driving needle weight so high it makes you cringe.

They just gotta understand theyll last as long as you baby em. They arent normal records, but they arent 5 plays and done either.

Man, there is nothing like the smell of a freshly cut dubplate. Everybody should cut one at least once.

I used to cut a lot back when there was a good cutting lathe in my city, but alas, my friend had to sell it. Now I would have to send off for one. It's not quite the same experience as being there in person.

But let me tell you about this lathe. It was a Nuemann Stereo Mastering Lathe that used to be owned by Columbia Records in the '70's and 80's. This was the Lathe that they used to cut their masters for many artist's vinyl releases. It was always a thrill to think I was getting my dubs cut on the same lathe that (*potentially*) cut records for people like Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and Weather Report among many many others.

The people who bought it flew all the way over from Germany (to take it back ) to the west coast of the US to pack it up and ship it back.

I do, living in Bristol there's more options than a lot of places. dubstudio.co.uk is a great place with dedicated workers and low prices.

As I play a lot less than I did last year my dub cutting activity has gone right down. Plus I hate cdjs. Though Serato is fun.

Cue acetates vs. one off vinyl debate.

Aah man I would LOVE to get into cutting dubs. So much. Really can't afford it at the moment though. Very tight on cash so could only afford to buy a numark controller for traktor, digital mixing is fine in a lot of ways but it just doesn't feel as satisfying as the few times I've played on vinyl. The amount of cash it would cost me to buy some proper decks, plus I'd probably need an amp + some new monitors for them which already leads to the extra problem that there's literally no space for any of that in my room at the moment. Plus all the money it would cost me to buy a vinyl collection large enough to play out from scratch and *then* come around to the cost of actually getting some dubs cut.

I could probably afford to get 3-4 tunes cut after christmas but whats the point if I don't have anything to play 'em on

EDIT: Also I wouldn't want to get anything cut without having it properly mastered so that's an extra £30 per track you gotta burn!
