Low bit synth

So, this has been bugging me for a while. I'd like to make the sound of the main (low bit?) synth in this tune, the one that starts at 0:43.
I'm really clueless on waveforms.
Would've posted in the "how do i make this sound"-thread, but it seems rather dead. =/

Could anyone give me a nudge in the right direction? Cheers :D

Basic64 would be perfect for making those kinda sounds http://www.delamancha.co.uk/basic.htm

alternativley you could get a perky synth and put it through a bitcrusher.

The free "Peach" and "TriForce" VSTi's by Tweakbench are pretty perfect for this...

this and most chippy sounds in general can be made with any subtractive synth if you are good at midi programming. the mario fireball sound for instance is a square osc with instant attack full sustain and instant release that plays a super fast trill. program a 64th note then a few more going up a few octaves. so like C0, C1, C2, C3. Change the order of the playback to achieve different pitch envelopes. Make sure your synth is set to monophonic and retrigger. bounce the sequence out in the notes you want to use for your riff so that you can sample it and play it as a single event. add bitcrusher for more fuzzyness

Hey thanks! I'll have a go with basic 64 and use the information knobgoblin posted.

Cheers :D

If you have massive , take 2 oscillators:

Osc 1 : Squ-Saw , position all the way to the left (pure square wave)

Osc 2 : basic Sin-Tri option

Mess around with filters (LP or Daft mostly) , pitch and automations (like step sequencer). Another pure square might on another octave might spice up your sound

Tadaa :)
