Question for the converts from D&B.....

..... do you think Kemal (Konflict) should convert to Dubstep? Word I've heard is that he's quit D&B as he feels its intentions don't fit with his Islamic faith- and let's face it, he was a pretty evil producer
But there's strong representation & musical tradition in Dubstep from the Muslim community, and if what I was told is true it seems a shame that he can't find an outlet for his talent- especially since he was well on his way here with the deep, epic, worldly half-step sounds of
Glimpse of Truth &
Stranded.

Konflict made some bad ass DnB tunes would be nice to see what he could bring to Dubstep, most of the big name DnB converts I've heard so far aren't that impressive though. Cept JuJu of course

that might require commitment from Impulse, and as Mayhem once said to me when attempting to tour them here a few years back- there's a reason why he's called Impulse

Agreed. I think the Norwegians could have a good crack at it- K/Polar was a Breakbeat & Atmosphere Technician before his time, but apparently damaged his hearing beyond repair? Teebee's not as abstract, but shares that ability. And Future Prophecies released some excellent pioneering half-step bizniz in their first releases.
But my odds-on favourite is Klute- he was an early supporter of Dubstep, talking up FWD>> in interviews years ago & his last 2 Albums included second CDs of left-of-centre downtempo productions. Not to mention releasing on his Commercial Suicide label the best-known producer of half-step D&B- though Amit doesn't think of it as D&B.....

I reckon it's only a matter of time until we see some Dubstep from Klute- he was an early supporter of Dubstep, talking up FWD>> in interviews years ago & his last 2 Albums included second CDs of left-of centre downtempo productions. kemal's new music:
http://www.myspace.com/nomadiqa
to me it sounds close to his last 12" on Cryptic Audio (Glimpse of Truth), really nice expansive arabic sound to it.
I'm not too fussed about this or that producer trying their hand at dubstep though - I've been completely underwhelmed by established 'names' coming in from other scenes, with the exception of maybe Juju. Oh and I'm also quite liking Mayhem's beats.

Thanks for the info! So he's not far off, is he..... wonder if he'd be open to having some of those productions remixed by 'steppers?
Maybe I'll ask him.

But Dubstep will? I think that praising Jah Rastafari and Haile Selassie I would be against Islam. Sure he doesn't have to use those kind of samples, but from what you said, his decision seemed to be based on what other people in the DnB scene were doing.
