Sorry if this has already been posted, but i just read this and found it fucking hilarious. From blackdown's blog yesterday:
"Then today, I get a call from the NME asking about a dubstep primer they're running, which has a Hadouken boxout as part of it. Apparently indie clubs are having "a dubstep hour". Eeek. Ah well, my primary gripe with the NME (and all the powerful rock press) is that they're so narrowly monocultural, so I won't complain when indie clubs embrace the bass."

Without wanting to be elitist, the question is: are kooks fans actually getting into this? Or just trying to appear diverse and trendy and 'street'? I sincerely hope the former, but the cynic in me can't help but suspect the latter. I wonder what would happen if we all turned up at an indie club for the dubstep hour? Whatever would peaches geldof think?

I've lived with a lot of rubbish indie type flatemates (that's not you, Chris) and exclusively they've all thought it was a load of moody depressing shite.
So, no. I can't see it working.

beats on that single pre-guitars are sick i reckon. dr venom - he made some rude tunes back in the day. Not Wise was sick.
the mc needs slapping for such disgustingly disrespectful catting of JME tho. its actually an embarassment, they should be so ashamed
they make me quite angry actually. i hate the fucking gentrification. and i hate the hoxton vibe

I really can't emphasise this enough - Dr Venom should be HUNG. I'm sure he told me he was going to University, not perparing to inflict possibly the worst sonic abomination ever to emerge from the British electonic music community. It sounds like a cross between the worst kind of low-fi indie crap and the most derivative unimagninative side of grime.
A mate of mine just hit the nail on the head: they're straight out of Nathan Barley.

i dont mind the band themselves. it's the fan base / media hype
'It's danceable grime with a wit most of Britpop would sell their Union Jacks for. 'That Boy That Girl' is nigh-on genius: lyrics that'll make you laugh, and a beat that'll make you move. Voluntarily.' THIS IS FAKE DIY
^^ a review on their page
its just the fucking nme trying to carve this band out a new genre...
the first song on their page, taht boy that girl is actually pretty cutting of the indie scene.

The notion that anyone could like this makes me want to kill myself.

you're in trouble mate - MANY people do/will like this. many many many
i share your pain, it makes me mad. the only thing which makes it better is that theyre zane lowe's single of the week, so it makes it so impossibly infuriating, combining so many of the things that i hate about popular culture, taking the unintentional satire to such dizzying heights that it goes beyond anger into comedy. but a really uncomfortable strange comedy
i wonder what venom's game is. is he sort of a silent party? they all look too young on the myspace?

Dr Venom is the singer. He's 23/24 I think.
They are clearly only doing well because of his contacts - he used to work at 1Xtra.

truesay, their bloc party remix is different
ive been into indie from way before everone decided to buy ramones t shirts and skinny jeans etc... so i can embrace the fact they are trying something different, and obviously they are not gonna appeal to everyone, but bollocks, musics supposed to be creative and different.. fair enopugh u may nto like it. its personal preference- i hate all the indie bangwagon bollox, and hopefully people wont jump on dubstep in the same way. one of the things that makes dubstep what it is, is the fact that the followers are so passionate about their music!

but why are they whoring themselves to exactly that? providing the perfect way in which those ppl of which they speak with such disdain can elevate themselves to a next level of indieness, as paul says. and they're all kitted out in that new rave shit
and
"I stay hard like metal,
you could never merk me,
dirty like skettle,
I kill germs like dettol,
get mucky,
but I will never settle."
fuck off
maybe its just complete, all-encompassing satire. i dont know. he seems quite intelligent. hmm
in a way it kind of is nathan barley, with the ambiguity also
