I'm moving into halls next Saturday.
CAN'T WAIT FOR FRESHERS....
What I wanted to know is, is it allowed to have a couple o' decks and a mixer in halls?
Or is that a banned item?
I haven't read anything anywhere/don't know where to read the list of banned items!
Help?!

My monitors seem to be the biggest cause of upset.
But yeah, decks and mixer no problem.

I was thinking about it more from a halls inspection thing.
A lot of places are real anal. So I'm worried if I lug all my stuff there and I'm not allowed it they might flip
I'm not too bothered about people in my flat, they will learn to love my music and recent vinyls I'm in love with.
(At the moment I cannot stop spinning Mr Oizo - Flat Beat)

i took mine last year.
its worth it imo, somethin to surprise the girls with when you bring em back
you can have anything you want in your room. its musical equipment, the uni would be pretty retarded not to let anyone with musical equipment practise and use it, whether its a guitar or decks
just dont break rules about sound. in terms of lateness and that. also one of the reasons i chose accomodation where there was no lecture halls nearby.

Fixed
I had a desk full of production gear when I was in halls, so did the girl in the room above me. They taught music tech though so I'd be retarded for them not to let people have stuff like that in their rooms. There's usually just rules about noise during certain times. Just don't be obnoxious, people are there to get an education, paying shitloads of money for it. If you play music all day then your housemates decide to throw an all night house party the day before you have an exam they're not exactly going to sympathize with you when you're telling them to stfu.

I had a guitar amp and some monitors with me in my first year and it turned out there was some ridiculous rule that said you weren't allowed "any electrical equipment" in your room. It was completely nonsensical because they weren't going around confiscating laptops or anything -- I think they were just trying to stop people cooking stuff in their rooms because we had something like the 3rd worst false alarm callout rate for the fire service out of all the buildings in the entire city. Anyway, I argued the point that you'd have to try pretty hard to set anything on fire with a solid state guitar amp, and it turned out fine in the end. I had a pretty sympathetic cleaner, and that's the only person who would've said anything.
My guess is that you'd be totally fine as long as you don't piss people off with the noise. *Maybe* they'll make you get your gear PAT tested for electrical safety, but that's pretty standard and not a big deal.

I've been sharing a house while at uni. I live in a loft conversion so I'm up away from everyone. Don't get so many noise complaints. Most I've had was a text from one of my housemates asking if I could turn it down a little when I was playing gabba loudly and drinking beer at 11:30 PM

Thanks everyone.
Yeah it wasn't the loudness I was worried about it was the whole eletrical item pooness they were all on. Quite a lot of unis ban a lot of electrical items in rooms so yeah, thought I'd just make sure, would be a bitch to have a room inspection and for them to tell me to get everything out and back home!
