With as visible as electronic music has become over the past years, a majority of our attention
has been focused upon personality and image of the creator, rather than the actual music itself.
As people become familiar with various forms of art, often they are forced to become familiar
with the “artist” that is attached to the work. These avatars are presented as hyper-stylized
and larger than life, unreachable by mere mortals. Frequently, a musician’s web presence
does a better job of telling the listener about them than their actual musical output does. There
is another side to this story, however. Well known musicians usually work with large teams
of other musicians, engineers, artists, and technicians, each using their talents and vision
to influence the final product. Without this dedicated and skillful support system, very few of
today’s superstars would be of any notice at all.
This brings us to Patrick Mundy.
I’ll keep this simple: The title of his DJ mix is instructive. Along with recording it live, Mundy
also physically mixed down every song on the tracklisting in his Analog/Digital hybrid studio.
He is an integral part of the music production process for these and many other artists, and
the dancefloors feeling his sonic touch across the world would happily agree. In addition to the
focused skill he can apply to audio in his “home” environment, Mundy is also an accomplished
live sound engineer, mixing Front of House at shows such as Rock The Bells, Hard, and
countless other events nationwide.
