Hi, Reaktor Headz.

Just wanted to start a thread for the reaktor users on here. A place to share ensembles, advice, problems, ect...

I have had Reaktor for just over a year, and have been using it on, and off (mostly off). I don't have much to offer at the moment, only basic stuff. I have found this tutorial, that is very basic, but if you are a noob this should get you on your way.

I just want to know who is using it, and what for really. I know purephase use it live, but i don't know how they are using?


I have got one question atm. how do you make a control, that can fade between more than 2 things. like the type control in Kontakt that morphs between lowpass, bandpass, highpass?

I have only ever used a granular synth once in reaktor for some atmo's. I can't remember the name but it was one that comes with it? i played with the granular delay, that was very fun. might have to look in to the granular side a bit more, after i finished mucking about with the few things im trying to make atm. if you got any good info on granular synth' that would be appreciated.

i'm getting into it. i've only made basic stuff with it so far and need to spend more time digging deeper into the program. when i get my new mac i'll be limiting myself to only a few programs and Reaktor is one of them.

i use reaktor 70% of the time for my bass now. No shit its nasty once you delve deep.

I use to to a limited extent, not got too far in building yet but its an awesome limitless tool. Use very little else synth wise these days, the rest of komplete goes neglected

I've got Reaktor, but seldom use it.

Serious question - under what circumstances do you actually think "hmmm, I want that sound, I'd better build a custom Reaktor ensemble" rather than "hmmm, I want that sound, I'd better load a VST that can already do it with a bit of programming"?

I guess it doesn't help that I've got Synthedit as well, so a lot of the time even if I do want something I can't get from an off-the-shelf VST I can do it in Synthedit. Which doesn't give me much motivation to learn Reaktor properly...

from poking around the reaktor forums, the "average" user more thinks - i like this ensemble, but it would be cool if it had a phaser, or two filters, rather than building one from scratch.

Im sure its about 95% of all reaktor users use the library ensembles as is (which is so big, its almost impossible not to find something like what you need).

2% build from scratch. And this will be your richard devine, tim exile level of audio manglers, rather than your average dubstepper/tchunglist, whatever, people more into sounds and textural exploration than 'music'

As an absolute guess.

I did get well into it and started building the perfect 'dubstep ensemble' (lol), more for the experience, spilt a few oscs into parallel chains with filters and bitcrushers etc. Didnt work tho, then my pc started playing up and not continued. Started thinking whats the point someone has prob already built something similar but better. (also - its called massive),.

With a small baby i dont have anything like the amount of time youd need to get deep into it. The new 5.5.1 update is ridiculous, about 12 new ensembles.

Its infinitly deep.

Shame i cant flog of fm8, absynth, massive, pro53. Much as theyre great synths in themselves, reaktor can do all that and more.

If you can get to the user library, snag Orange for granular bizness. Fucking fantastic.

And yes the update 5.5.1 is amazing, really took away the whole eyesore that was reaktor before. Much easier to navigate between screens now.

Yeah, that's basically spot on. Probably even fewer, actually. I'd guess there's probably less than 50 people in the world making advanced (or just really good, well thought-out) Reaktor ensembles for the user community. Maybe even 20. (Actually from time to time it's not unheard of for them to end up working for us...)

To be fair, the beauty of Reaktor is less the fact that you can go down to the Core level and fuck with the inner workings of yr biquad filters, and more that you can let's stick an envelope on this phase shifter and feed the output into a llama. Shit, even DSP guys don't want to be fucking around with filter coefficients too much without planning ahead to some extent and knowing what you want to achieve. What's good about Reaktor - past the initial barrier to entry of working out how block diagrams work - is that you can dig as deep as you want to, but you don't need to reinvent the wheel just to add an oscillator or an envelope (unlike, say, coding in C++). That's what the factory library is for.

i like them stats, im currently in the 2% (apart from i suck )

i have found it harder modding, then building. as i don't have a clue what is going on in other peoples ensembles.

Heaps of wicked ensembles on the user library check out the work of Dieter Zobel (I'm sure that's his name). The Widdler mentioned that he uses his stuff.

Man, I just got around to installing the 5.5.1 update finally and I'm feeling it so far. I got lost for like two hours last night playing with Metaphysical Function by loading up some of my own field recordings into it. I even pulled out my Udu drum and jammed along with it. Ambient niceness.

Photone and Lazer Bass were sounding cool also. Oh, and the one synth that I built worked fine in it too.

Yeah i have built my own ensambles from scratch (mostly scratching my head).
I made a drum sequencer that was synced to the hosts clock.

I also made a shit additive synth. It was satisfying though!
