does anyone get this?
when you make a track, you're really pleased with it , you post it up , send it places and nothing.
Sometimes it makes me think why am I even spending hours of my own time making tunes when no-ones going to listen to it .

aslong as you like it, who cares?

not every tune you make is gunna loved by the masses.

Everyone always loves all of my songs.

Seriously though, as long as you had a good time and learned something from it, it should be a positive experience.

Like Mala says its all about the doing, being creative, the process and putting it into action and not the end gain. Everything else would be a bonus, for me.

I think everyone feels like this now and again. It is hard work.

That's an awesome way to put it.

I think there's always gonna be pay off though. Doesn't matter the scale. Tracks will always hit real well with certain people, and that always feels fucking ballin when it does.

Get it all the time man, then I realize that when I started making music I always said that I make music for me not anybody else. I don't care if other people think it's good or bad, and I don't care if somebody thinks I should use a different drum kit, or make the vocals louder or lower, and I especially don't care if somebody recommends moar wobble. I'll take crit if it's valid of course, but at the end of the day, I won't change something if I don't feel like it, and I won't go off making some other genre or style for attention, I'll do whatever I want because it's far more rewarding.

Sometimes it does feel comparable to showing someone a picture of your newborn son, only to have them quickly walk away with no comment.

yeah you should make things that you like, regardless of what the public reaction may be.. its like artists don't display all the artwork in a gallery.

fuck the public, listen to some snares or some jon hopkins or four tet or hell amon tobin - bricolage
if that lp doesnt help you you're a lost cause to me

I know what you mean, but then I go to bed, wake up in the morning and can't help but open up the DAW and repeat until maybe something good comes from it.
Put it this way, it's better then spending endless hours down the pub.

Cheaper, too haha!

Nah its like anything innit.. If you sit and watch tele to long you get pissed off with it...If you go out drinking every day of the week, it'll catch up to you...


If you try and produce every day and put 110% into it you'll burn out.

I get production depression but it has nothing to do with what your talking about. For me it's all about how I personally feel about my tunes, and a lot of the time I get bummed on where I'm at with my ideas and my output into the world of music. Especially when my best friend makes some of the most amazing/original music I have ever heard, he has always been ten steps ahead of me with music as far as style and skill go, hes an amazing drummer electronic musician. To bad he never puts out his old shit, I honestly think he would explode in the hiphop scene if he ever put it out for people to hear.

Never had this problem. I'm not out to get listeners, I'm out to create something. So long as I progress, I'm happy!

i feel satisfied just seeing the vision in my mind become a tangible thing i can show to people...

I totally get this. I enjoy making the tunes and maybe that's the important thing but it'd be nice if your music made people happy too. Instead I just get people telling me it's very good when really they don't get it and don't want to let me down. I don't know anyone who'd really know much of the music I listen to so when I play them my stuff they just don't know how to critique it/if they even like it. My tunes aren't that far out but unless you're into electronic music you probably haven't heard much like it before, never mind gotten into it enough to understand what's going on it it. I daydream about playing live but I think I'll remain my own biggest fan.

Make sure you send to the right ears. No point sending your latest Datsik Wobbler to Deep Medi for example.

I see where a lot of you are coming from... I do make music (and play it) primarily because i enjoy it... But with making music, half the satisfaction comes from seeing that people are on the same wavelength as you and enjoy your style.

i'm getting this with my most recent track, which is a remix goin out for release.
i'm at the mixdown stage and just couldnt be arsed.
i cant get it to sound anyways as powerful as something i would admire from like DoctorP or Bar9 so i feel like i just have to accept how shit it's gonna sound, even though i spent about 3 weeks making all the sounds etc...
i guess this is all mixed with the fact that i've released 8 tunes over the past year on several labels but havent received a penny yet..
not that i'm in it for the money but it would be good to have something to keep the motivation up a bit.
meh.
