Out of curiousity, how often are your best tunes accidents?

I have noticed a lot of my better sounding tunes are always on accident or not planned.
Just wondering how it is for others?

if by "accident" you mean through experimentation, then yes quite often.
i wouldnt say a tune is an accident thou, i dont accidently put everything in a tune.

It used to be all of them back when I started but these days I normally have a pretty good to vague idea of how I want a tune to pan out before I start it.

I'd think youd have to be quiet a skilled synth programmer to get the exact sound in your head come out of a synth. I think most of us go for the sound in our heads and find something interesting by accident and roll with it.

well, I never sit down and go "I will now write my best tune ever", and then do so.

nothing is planned, yet nothing is an accident.

I have a rough idea of what I want, but usually just experiment and go with the flow. Not knowing what your doing sometimes can aid you stumble across some awesome sounding samples and basslines.

In short. Every day I wake up, and I say to myself, "you sir, are awesome", then drink copious amounts of jack daniels, because i wouldn't want to start my day without topping up on irish stereotype, smoke somewhere between 1 and 50 Marlboro reds, punch a bear in the face, fight a shark, climb a mountain, and when all that is done, I think "you've done everything else today, why not write the greatest song ever"... and I do just that.
And that sir is what happens in opposite land.

Possibly going to be the best quote ever! haha

The drinking and smoking parts are true to be fair, I did once dream I rode a shark, and in primary school a teacher asked us to draw what we did on the weekend and I drew myself punching out a bear... So there are elements of truth...

nice!
I think the one thing I do find (at least lately) most of my drum patterns that i think are my best are not planned what so ever, i just go with it lol

I'll jump on board with the lot of you. It's not really by accident but I don't normally (ever) sit down at the computer with a finished product in my head. It takes some fucking around. Not like you fall into the keyboard and a hook is born!

this. But I wouldn't consider it an accident, rather just being led but how we feel about the sound rather than trying to tamper with it. That said, I am finding more and more often that I'm able to get the sounds that I want, or at least very close. My main problem though, is I always aim for the dancefloor but end up with tracks quite a bit softer. I think my most recent one is my best attempt, but it's still a way off.

I think collectively we're all participating in a newer version of the infinite monkey theorem. Just replace the typewriters with DAWs, the monkeys with humans, and the finished works of Shakespeare with a great album.

This, although it obviously varies depending on how creative the individual is.

quite alot actually.i think this would be the case for anyone that is somewhat new to production. example: i have overlapped my drums slightly by accident and then realize it sounds tight as hell. or ill put an effect on 1 channal thinking its for something else and then it changes something i wasnt expecting but it sounds good. that kind of shit
