Hey, I'm kinda new here and I'm also new to creating dubstep. I've read a lot of dubstep bible tutorials and watched a lot of videos, Such as Kev Willow's. I'm also a guitarist. I've been playing for about 7 years and I play all different types of music. I was wondering if I'm able to put some guitar in dubstep. Would It still be considered dubstep? What are my boundaries. Am I allowed to put guitar in dubstep?

Distance has used guitar in some of his tracks. No one has ever accused him of not being Dubstep.

What style do you play man? Just out of interest?

I play death metal, metal, metalcore, deathcore, Power metal

Even Distances synths sound like they're going through an effect chain of a guitar, with the type of distortion. If you don't actually use a guitar, you can still put your knowledge of effects into a synth.

Distances loves running his synths through Guitar Rig...

I wish more producers, would use more real insruments in their tracks. Most of the time when people use samples of real instruments, even good samples, it still sound dead like a sample (I have done this myself ).

I was going to make a few tracks with a guitarist I know, but we ended up falling out before we even started recording

so you want to make electronic death metal like borgore basically.

you might as well just make metal with more bass.

Guitar Rig's cabs are some of my favorite effects to use on vocals, horns, synths, a lot of stuff

And as for guitars.... silly question mate (no offense)... Use whatever u want.
Chords strummed or fingerpicked with delays and verbs make beautiful atmosphere.

Or layer some sludgy death metal chug breakdowns with Yoy wobbles (I must admit, months ago I got excited about trying this out, thinking it was a good, original idea... soon convinced myself that it wasn't.)

2)135-145 bpm


Anything you do within those very small restrictions is completely up to you.

I suggest you research the genre a bit more.

And I personally would argue with rule #2, but that's just my opinion.

I would say that their is music that fits those rules, and is not dubstep...

Almost, rule 3, half time drums. Not necessarily for the whole track but the general vibe must be halftime. Otherwise your either making breakbeat, garage or jungle.

this is the problem with music genres getting more popular. kids want to make that particular style of cool music so they want to follow a set of rules so their music will be regarded as such. do whatever you want and then label it how you want. fuck humanoids.
