Technics 1210s cease production

Here's the press release from Technics:
Regarding our analogue turntable products, we have to inform you of our decision to terminate the business within this year, regrettably. Here are the reasons which made us reach this conclusion.

1. Since beginning of last decade, our sales of turntables have been decreasing drastically. They’re almost one-fifteenth of the sales 10 years ago.
2. Many key parts are no longer available as some of our suppliers stopped production or discontinued their businesses. Also, there is the risk that some key parts’ availabilities might stop suddenly, and these parts are only being produced for our turntables. In that case we cannot produce the products that we have taken orders for already.

We cannot help discontinuing production in advance in order to avoid the worst case scenario.
What do you guys think of this? Is this the beginning of the end (of the end) of vinyls and dubplate culture?

This seems to have generated a lot of discussion on the net, with many people believing this to be another false alarm (e.g. Nov 2009).

This statement above is supposedly a translation of one made on Panasonics Japanese website, although nowhere apparently has anybody been able to find the original! I'm going to wait until a statement comes out in English before I get all worked up about this.

Vinyl won't ever die. There is still a fairly big market for it.

Does this mean the price for a used pair is gonna shoot up? Been looking to pick up a pair on the cheap for a while now.

i only use vinyl cause i find it way more enjoyable than any other medium, including serato and those alike + it adds to the value of the 'hobbie' as ure collecting too...
i will be gutted if this is true, but as its already been mentioned there was rumours flying around a while ago + the fact that no official statement has been unearthed is reasuring, if it is true im buying a shit load of turntables!

STOP THE WAR ON VINYL!

even if they did cease production, the second hand market for techs is so flodded there won't be any sort of shortage for a long time to come (at least for the MKII). My decks are like 25 years old and still going strong. You can get pretty much every spare part for the entire turntable (at sometimes horrid prices but still...).
However I still call bullshit until an official statement is released. Sounds more like another hype message so people will go out and stock up on decks. Personally I wouldn't even consider buying a pair of new Technics decks. My used MKII's will probably outlive me.
