Was reading about this earlier. Apparently they did have hearing aids back in those days, but as you can imagine as it was the 20's they were much bigger than they are today - about the same size as cell phones. Check it out.

Reminds me of this one, the "out of place hipster" in the photo from the 1940's...

true, due to the lack of towers/satellites...

but of course, these are super crazy ultimate unexplainable future magic cell phones we're talking about :o :o

yea... hearing aid. obviously you can see the entire reason they cut to a new scene is because she's looking directly at the camera (silent film = director can speak to the actors during filming)

im imagening the scene went like this:

Director: "hurry up and get across frame!"
actress : "whaat?"
Director:"start walking"
actress: "walking, i am walking!" (looks at camera)

lol... i mean time traveler, come on. If it was Doctor Who in drag then maybe, but a time travler (with the knowlege they have avaliable) would not be speaking into a device THAT big.... surely he/her would be using a device thats alittle less suspect.

Most logical situation.. why would a time traveller take their phone anyway, who would they have to call?.. would they even have credit.

Funny seeing as she looked lost

This and this.

Look at it this way: if you were about to time travel back to the dinosaur age, would you take your cellphone? (Assuming you're also bringing a camera with enough battery life) No, b/c there'd be no towers/satellites to complete your calls. Same goes with the 1920s.

Time travel is NOT possible.

If it is "ever" possible then you wouldn't ask that question. It would have already happened, and you would know about it. Think about the word EVER. If time travel was traveling to the past or to the present, we would never die. Time is an... illusion.. a system of measurement. It does not catalog events and actualities. Time doesn't record or foresee anything. Time is purely a human concept. Physics have made a fundamental error of including it into space and dimension. A variable of one directional thought. There is believably a beginning and an end. The moment you try to measure that, is the moment you see the error in human thought. The past is events that are in a state of decay. The future has not been written yet. Very simple... there is no "TIME" between those, because those points cannot be determined.

If some years down the road time travel is invented, people will start using it and traveling back in time. Thus, they would start appearing here amongst us. Because we haven't yet seen these future beings visiting us, that means they either find our epoch too boring to revisit and have have either gone much farther back in time or into their own future, or time travel doesn't exist.

My argument for why time travel isn't possible goes like this:

If some years down the road time travel is invented, people will start using it and traveling back in time. Thus, they would start appearing here amongst us. Because we haven't yet seen these future beings visiting us, that means they either find our epoch too boring to revisit and have have either gone much farther back in time or into their own future, or time travel doesn't exist.
Also... if time travel to the past was possible... it still is, and if it is possible, it was possible. We have over 6800 years of recorded human civilization and another 3.8 millions years of human existence. If time travel to the past is/was possible, that's 3.8 millions years of not one single record of a similar event or future artifact.

I have another seemingly interesting perspective. I think that we are the most "Recent Version" of existence. Everything we do has an impression and residual effect on the universe, which has a decay that instantly falls below our own perceptions. But, that impression doesn't just zap out of existence! If a machine was able to analyze the impression left by us, convert any other matter into fuel (albeit extremely inefficient), then a process where that fuel is converted to energy to matter, the past energy/matter could be amplified to "re-create" the original past-time state. This would create some type of dual reality. Would a person created have consciousness or awareness? Would a weaker creation be a weaker awareness?

Some days I feel like I am the weaker creation of an impression of myself.

edit: I think the Star Trek Holo-deck worked like this, but only for virtual reality, not recreation of past impressions.

There is NO TIME TRAVEL. The only thing possible is amplification of the past!
