So today I got to sit in on a sound designer that works for Weta Workshop.
The cat has alot of feature films under his belt.....
Kink kong, LOTRs, heavenly creatures, the ring 2, etc.
What kind of tricks do yall use that come from movie sound design??

I live near a busy road and I sat there one day with my H2 portable recorder (capable of 4 channel surround recording)
I got some cool doppler stuff with a motorcycle that was really loud and when I slowed it down and pitched it down it was something straight out of Aliens or some sci-fi flick.
I've also gone into busy restaurants and sat there quietly and recorded the chatter to layer behind tracks

Shit, I've been having all sorts of fun doing this kind of thing lately.
Kettles boiling, cans (beer), micing guitar amps up together and recording the strange hums and hisses, weird vocal noises from my daughter etc. Then mangle in Kontakt or Sampler. Resample. Maybe mangle some more.
Just spent the last few months building my own unique sample library as I haven't had much time to actually finish full tracks, but it's worth it.

This for days, always surreptitiously recording stuff.
