I hate them too. But even DSF and DOA were blocked at my last job, so I don't think its a big deal. You do tend to spend your entire workday on these things. Not that it stops you if you really hate your job--I just spent the entire time on Wikipedia learning everything I could about everything there was in the universe...

...until I was ultimately fired.

it is in most places but that's just down to an individual workplace's policy or IT department blocking it

but yeah it's not even remotely newsworthy. i thought from the title that the german government was somehow banning it but it's just some german companies banning it

everything is beyond you, dear badger :)

"Facebook and Twitter is also targeted by the Government lead by Angela Merkel, who intents to promote a law to disallow personal resources companies to use social networks for recruiting, with the purpose of protecting the private life of job applicants. Only professional platforms will be allowed, platforms like Xing or LinkedIn."

Sensationist stupidity in hyping headline.

As for Merkel's comments and inclinations, frankly, anyone using Facebook as a recruiting resource should be shot. If I'm paying someone good money to recruit employees for me, I sure as hell would not want them to use Facebook. That's just stupid.
