EQ/distortion

Is it EQ then distort? Or distort then EQ? It is an old mastering tip I believe.

In mixing their is no right, or wronge when it comes to signal chain...

Just switch them round, and see the difference. It all depends on the sound you want, you can EQ pre and post distortion. EQ first will effected the way the distortion does it's shizz. EQ after is more for correcting, and taming the distortion.

Whats said above, but if you wanna think about it more technically, consider that any distortion that works based on an overdrive is going to bring ALOT of what you eq away back out, and will make any wierd resonance rings more noticable... Not cautioning against it, just telling you what to expect...

band passing, sweeping cutoff, and then overdriving shits awesome though.

EQ then distortion sounds nicer imo

I'd guess because you aren't distorting any of the shite, it's all gone and there's no shite harmonics being brought up from the distortion
