Stop forcing it. I always take a break from a song if I am just not making any progress. A lot of times starting a completely new/different song helps your mind refresh and then you can go back to what you were working on with new ideas.

Lulz at some of the responses above
I do the following:
A> Indulge in gearlust
B> Click the refresh button on DSF alot...
C> Go out & visit people/play sports/read etc etc.
If the music tech is getting frustrating, go do something else and come back with fresh mind and fresh energy.

I must say minecraft is very addicting and fun

- you can build anything you want! I just hate those stupid creepers that blow up on you. Very irritating.
I also make an occasional ice cream trip to mcdonalds or any other local shop. Hitting the gym also here and there when I have time.
Above all, studying and reading take up most of my time.

LOL
DSF has single handedly sent my production
ability through the roof, but
output to the grave...

I take solace in knowing other people have faith in me and my abilities. That and I drink a lot.

yeah..
I hung out with Calyx back in the day and his advice to me was "work on about 3 tunes at once and when you get bored switch to another one"
spreading the process of making a tune over months instead of days has been good to me
