Behringer TRUTH B2031. Fit your budget if you can get a used pair.
They're active though. You may not want to pay for the preamp if you're lucky with your own amp.

I have these and couldnt recommend them enough, especially for the money. They're bi-amplified, having seperate in-built amps for the sub and tweeter.

I've been told the behringers have unbalanced bass and aren't that good for production.

Behringers are HR824 knockofs.

The Truths have horrible, smeary, flabby bass. You can't tell what the fuck is going on.

If we were going to get picky and split hairs, we could say the Mackies that they're a copy of aren't much better, either. Not that this helps much.

:(

I hear fantastic things about adams.
The general rule with monitors is that you get what you pay for.

IMO it's better to spend the money you've got on smaller drivers with higher quality/flatter response, and then add a sub in later to cover the lows.

Or buy one really good 8" driver and then another to match later if you're strapped.

Yeh I've got me some of these. Thought the bass end was OK all though could be cos my room has some funky acoustics ( or i'm over compensating ). Couldn't believe the high end on them when I first got them, reckon I must have got used to it now because I don't notice it so much...

Definitely spend as much you can spare on monitors though. You get what you pay for.
