Hey guys im new to the forum and new to producing.

(Sorry if i break any Forum Rules lol)

Basically i really want to start producing Dubstep!

I want to know where to start...
I have Fl Studio 9 and Reason 5.

Any advice would be appreciated Thanks

Simple, choose between FL Studio 9 or Reason 5 and stick with it.
Look up Tutorials, there are millions on youtube and elsewhere.
Learn your program (really have to push yourself for this one as it can cause some headache from time to time)
And last but not least, ask DSF for any further help.

You have everything you need to make music. Learn how to use fruity loops, watch tutorials and practice a lot.

Learn ho to rewire reason into fruity loops.

Choose FL studio, and rewire your Reason to it, and you will able to most powerfull workstation!

I understand being a bit confused about starting, I guess, but why do people make threads about how they need help getting started? I didn't, and most others don't either.

one of the hardest things about beginning to produce your own tracks is to learn what are the different "elements" of an electronic music composition called so you can ask how to do them.
this gives me an idea, how about a stickie of a sort of "english-production jargon"-dictionary where common production terms were explained in layman's terms? anyone?

the production bible up top, a audio terminology glossary, and the manual/tutorials/books for your DAW of choice to start with

On Fruity Loops, learn in this order :

1 > Step sequencer. Open two samplers, load a kick into one and a snare into the other. Right click on each, hit fill each 8 steps. Delete the secon blip for the kick, and the first blip for the snare. Go to view, playlist, see along the bottom where it says pattern 1? Put four of those little bricks in a row. Congrats. Youve made dubstep

2 > Mixer. Click on the kick so its sampler window opens. Go to view/mixer... Click on "Mixer Track 1". Hit CTRL+L, and its name should change to the same name as your kick sampler. Do the same thing with your snare. No see how you can control there volumes? Go to the snares mixer track. See all the little arrows running down the side, on top of the EQ and stuff? Click one, hit select, the Reeverb.

3 > Synthesis. Go to playlist, select patter 2. Go back to step sequncer, insert, 3xOsc. Set OSC1 to the square or triangle wave using the little pictures along the bottom of each osc. Go to the top Click <INS> tab, the click the "Cut" tab. See the little lfo/wave thing at the bottom? Turn its AMT knob the whole way up, its ATK knob the whole way down, and then right click on its SPD knob and hit set rate > 2 steps. Go back to step sequencer, right click on 3xosc, hit send to piano roll. Lay a few notes, only play the white keys, make the first note you hit an 'A' note. Go back to playlist. Paste pattern 2 under pattern 1.

Hit play.

Not even going to get into the 'which sequencer is best' debate as its a load of bollocks but telling someone to only use either 2 out of about 5 or 6 sequencers is just silly.

Why tell someone to stick to a program, when they might want to advance to something else sometime in the future. (Not sure about FL but personally I dont think I would have been able to progress mixdown skills (in practice, not skills in theory/ knowledge) if I was still using reason all the time. I still use reason for piano's and synths but there are a fair few plugins and features that Id miss from logic.

@ Smartyyy: Don't get too hung up on what programs mate, though you might want to start using other programs in the future to get more into mixing etc if you feel that need. And make sure you learn all the techniques, knowledge, theory (why this does plugin/ effect does this when you put it on that etc etc), tut vids, rinse magazines and books that you read, interviews with other producers! You can never learn too much stuff about mixing/ recording/ producing! Good luck, hope to hear some of your productions some time in the future bruv

reason if you want to learn within a limited subset of gear and routing
you can rewire it in fl later on
fl you have the vst options
honestly at a beginning stage it's best to learn the basics all in one program and focus then you can translate that knowledge into another program when the time comes

If you have those two programs, you really should work with fruity. It is an open environment, meaning you can try out many different tools in that environment to see which ones you like working with and produce the kind of sound you want. The same cannot be said of reason.

Are you the kind of person that likes to have sex with new and interesting people? With the thought of maybe finding someone, someday whom you really enjoy and want to spend the rest of your life with? Then FL is for you.

Or are you the kind of person who will marry the mate that your parents select for you and learn to love that person, no matter their peculiarities? If so, Reason is for you.

FL is great. a lot of people dont use it to its full potential... which sucks cause you can do a lot of good with it.

This is the first thing ive made in FL studio.

Took me a couple of days. I want feedback but nothing insulting XD haha

Keep practicing and read about EQ.
