Question about monitor connection

Hi there

I have been looking in to getting a set of monitors and a soundcard.

The soundcard I am leaning toward is the Lexicon Lambda (http://www.lexiconpro.com/product.php?id=8) as it has a good amount of inputs for instruments which I want, is affordable and looks the nuts.

My problem is, I have also been looking at buying some Alesis Prolinear 720DSP monitors which I've found locally second hand and I'm not sure whether the sound card and monitors are connectable... I may be being stupid here. Can some tell me whether I can connect the Lambda to this: http://www.alesis.com/prolinear720dsp

The other monitors I was looking at are the Alesis M1 520 (http://www.alesis.com/m1active520). Does anyone have any experience with either of the Alesis and want to give some feedback?

yes, you connect the lambda to the monitors.

havent used either of the monitors before. your best bet is to try and listen to both pairs and decide for yourself which you like the sound of more. or look at some specs and compare.

All I can see on the Lambda is 1/4" outs and it seems the only input the Alesis 720's have doesn't fit that? Sorry you may have to walk me through this, I'm a veteran car audio installer but I'm very new to studio monitoring!

I have heard the Alesis' and think they sound great, I'm 90% I'm going for those really..

cool.
well you need a bit of cable with a 1/4" connector on one end and a whatever the speakers have connector on the other end.

most retailers sell cables like this, or make one.

I've got them - love em, they've helped my mixdowns no end!! Only problem is the bass only goes down to like 50hz, so you do miss some sub, but you can work around that mixdown wise! Or just buy a sub...

Alesis are very poorly made, and will break. At my old college, before doing some serious upgrading to some lovely ATC's we had Alesis. They sound funking terrible, the amps crackled, and the cones blew a few times in one term.
Really hyped up bass that makes your mixes sound shit and flat on any other monitor/speakers. Take it from me who's had some experience listening to various monitors and can pass good judgement. Dont do it...
