Hey people! Thought I'd sign up to the forum for some useful tips and tricks to making the perfect dubstep track ...
Ive always been involved in music owning my first set of decks when I was 17 mixing Bassline/4x4. A few years on and I got bored of the same repeatitive beat and bassline sounds and found dubstep! Now im more interested in producing that mixing. Would like some tips on starting off, if theres any threads on here then leave the links

I have used some programs such as Acid, Logic, Cubase but I really feel comfortable with FL
I have also bought the new BHK Dubstep sample pack from Loopmasters to start off with some good samples rather than the free low sq ones.

i think you should really get into synthesis and forget your sample packs, even when I use my sample packs its purely for percussion or little fx (which ill throw more fx upon) unless im looking for something specific.

Ok thats for the advice ill have a read now Also id be VERY grateful if someone could share a bullwhip crack wav. with me as it gives a harsh hit in a beat

I'd suggest forgetting the synths and fx entirely if you're just starting out! Work on your beats, making sure they're coming through at the right level and with the right velocity etc. (Compare to other tracks and how they sound). I'd then suggest laying sub bass and do the same (compare to other tracks to find out where it should sit in the mix). Obviously dont copy the whole tracks levels and eq's etc entirely as it has to have your own twist on it. From here I would then spend a good while working on synths. Simple first up until the more advanced. Hope this helps =].

Samples have their proper application, but i REALLY enjoy synthesis..Not to be redundant, but it's one of the reasons I use Reason...There are some days where I'll just load up an instance of thor and just randomly tweak stuff until I get a fun unique sound...
