Big ups everyone! I am making a full length Skrillex vs. Mt. Eden mix


just kidding.
My question is how long should my mix be? I am an unknown DJ. When I see unknown DJ's with super long mixes I'm like 'oh god I don't want to listen to that'. I see all these DJ''s that put out so much crap. Mine is going to be TOP fuckin notch. My selection is premium and I'm putting in lots and lots of hours plus I'm gonna get it mastered (anyone have any recommendations?). I originally wanted it to be like super deep gangster reggae mixing some undeniable classix with the freshest dubs from today. Now, it's more like badman outerspace skank (still really fresh). I have made mixes before, but I want this one to be a serious promo.

Btw, my name is Mark Murder. I'm 22. I've been producing music since I was 16 but just got into dubstep about 2 years ago. It is very influential to me. I fell on my head because of a balcony collapse at a dance party and got a ton of money and spent just about all of it on an insane sound system and super professional equipment. I am trying to perfect my technique and sound until I am an international champion before I try to put myself out there (vs. post every little thing you do online/gig with lackluster skills).

PS I don't know if this is the right forum, but if anyone can suggest any reggae influenced dub, especially with really raw gangster vocals, I would greatly appreciate it.

I've started my own line of jewellery. It's mainly religious iconography, but with a Saved By The Bell vibe.

how ever long you feel it should be, but it should be able to fit on a cd though, i hate when studio mixes go longer than 80 mins

I originally was shooting for 45 minutes. Then I thought maybe I should do 15. I just wanted to get some input on how long the average internet people's attention spans were. Grazie

60mins max for a mix CD unless it's really good.

If it's an artist showcase, 45mins.

a good dj can go for well over an hour without losing people's attention span and keeping it interesting

i didn't think mixes got mastered. all the individual songs are mastered (presumably) so i wouldn't think it'd be necessary.

I really want mine to sound golden. I am going to mash the fuck out of some songs and throw in some of my own productions and other raw sound elements.

1. I heard this DJ's, Stickybuds, mix after he mastered it and thats what really gave me inspiration and made it seem worth it.

2. I want the volume to be normalized and to make it peak at a certain point. (I could probably do this myself)

3. I want the EQ to optimized for big systems. I could also chop it up and incorporate it into a set

Who knows if it will be even worth mastering in the end. I have about 16 minutes now. I've been working on it for probably 20 hours.

And no this isn't a wind up (I assume this is some vernacular for a joke).

One day I was listening to the song Patience by Damien Marley and Nas and thought, "Hey, Psychedelic Runway would go perfectly with this." So I came home and mixed it up and I've been running with it ever since.

I appreciate all the input! I'm thinking about posting up a little sample in a bit.

Macbook Pro, Ecler Evo 5, mk1200, tt200 (numark), Moog Little Phatty, Korg R3, Presonus Tube preamp/compressor, DBX active pa processor, 2 QSC k12's@1000w and an Electrovoice EV750 subwoofer@750w. I also have some other stuff but I don't think its really worth mentioning.

Good lord, that's your home setup? Fair play, wouldn't mind a pic or 2 if you've got one kicking around, never seen those out of a club environment.

not many people use QSC's at home so he maybe does weddings or mobile disco?

I would make the mix 1 hour long, its a pretty standard length

We RAAAAGE some bass up in here.

Serox, maybe you don't pump serious power in your place, but I wake up and make earthquakes in my home. I do get paid as a mobile DJ tho, in all fairness. I got the QSC's because they are so lightweight and portable (they also angle downwards which makes them sound way better and requires less volume to really hear it). All this shit fits in my GLI. I also have more speakers but I'm not really trying to get into a list of everything I own
