I bought a second hand matrix 2000 for $500..
one of the speakers crackles.. I know its not the cable because I've switched cables..
any ideas on how to find out where the problem is?

yeah..
I know they're not the best.. but on a house party budget $500 for a matrix 2000 is a steal..
I was planning on getting the 1000 for over a month now.. which goes for $900
so I figured I'd pick up the 2000 for $500
even if I have to replace the speaker completely it would cost around $300.. which would put me at $800.. which is still a deal.
But I figured I could just replace what needs to be replaced.

well like i said their all in one design how you're handy with electronics and soldering and have the proper meters and tools to tackle it as there is more that can go wrong than a passive speaker when it comes to troubleshooting

I'm pretty sure its the speaker because I can plug the other one in to either out and it works fine..

then simply swap the drivers between the 2 cabs and go from there
might just need a new driver

so I swapped the horn driver + horn (I'm new to this so my terminology is gonna blow) and everything works great threw the one cab! I haven't swapped the 12" driver yet, because I figured that if the horn sounds good on the other one the problem is most likely in the connection.
Is there any other testing I should do?
Should I just get new cables and replace the jack? If the jack is the problem I would like to replace both of them on the tops?
..does this sound right?
thanks!

yea i would have tested the woofers first

but would the woofer be what is causing the horn to crackle?
Edit: also the horns didn't require any soldering.. but the woofers will.. and I currently don't have a gun or solder

well is it the horn or woofer crackling?

I just went and tested each woofer alone in there own cab and they both work fine! So its obviously somewhere in the connection w/ the horn!

well there ya go
more than likely you're going to need some solder, an iron, and wire though

thanks for helping me narrow it down. What connection should I be looking at tho? because the horn requires no solder to connect.

might just be a damaged horn

haha.. very true! What should I be looking for? just a loose wire or a worn/crappy solder job?
I could probably take pictures tomorrow if that'd help..
well.. If that would help you help me! lol
