..just get the feeling that eventually something has got to give..

This isn't what it seems

They actually DID try to privatize water in bolivia, which where i'm originally from. That shit did not go well and even the greediest of capitalists know it can't be done without serious problems from the people.

thaaaaank you.

i own a few organic farms and ill be the first to tell you that this does not effect me like most govt. haters say it will.

i talk to the feds on the regular, and ill go ahead and say that this bill (even if passed) would not change anything about the way i operate my farms

It would remove the right to clean, store and thus own seed in the US.

Word. Gotta drop that knowledge. This bill is a good thing. It focuses mainly on livestock, I don't even see anything reference produce, other than you don't have to register for it.
HR875 wrote:(14) FOOD PRODUCTION FACILITY- The term ‘food production facility’ means any farm, ranch, orchard, vineyard, aquaculture facility, or confined animal-feeding operation.
...
(13) FOOD ESTABLISHMENT-

(B) EXCLUSIONS- For the purposes of registration, the term ‘food establishment’ does not include a food production facility as defined in paragraph (14), restaurant, other retail food establishment, nonprofit food establishment in which food is prepared for or served directly to the consumer, or fishing vessel (other than a fishing vessel engaged in processing, as that term is defined in section 123.3 of title 21, Code of Federal Regulations).

@sd5

first of all, it has quite awhile to go before it is even put up to vote, it's been in limbo for almost two years already.

secondly, S.AMDT.4696 and a plethora of other amendments would negate such proposals on seed storage, so it is obvious the majority is not behind the bill as it stands, therefore will not pass before the amendments are dealt with.

thirdly, such a bill as it stands would violate the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, so i could appeal any contests from the govt til i'm long in the tooth, until the amendments are dealt with

tl;dr, i could go on and on, but i promise you my farming will remain exactly the same as it is now, and with the amendments it'll actually be a good step forward for organic farmers

i am the owner/operator of five organic farms on purchased land

only one of them has goal of net profit (which i do not gain any money from, all profit is invested back into Fresno county and various charities)

the rest are self-sustaining sanctuaries for the farmers and volunteers who work the land in exchange for food/shelter/community

its not really a living, per se (since i dont make money off of them) but it is a living in the sense that i get 95% of my food from their outputs, and always have a self-sustaining natural habitat that i can retreat to when i'm tired of the city

i love my farms above all other possessions, and will definitely be living on them once my life dwindles down to a calmer state

all of the non-profit farms could be considered communes, although they have varying degrees of technology... however all the people who work my farms are like family to me, and are supremely satisfied with their lifestyle and how i operate

i will say that my first order of business was to install composting toilets in all farms.. which work wonders and surprisingly dont smell, at all..

i try to stay on top of them, but for the most part when im busy i just read reports from my friends that do most of the groundskeeping (until planting seasons, when im out digging/organizing), and as of my last visit to them (9 days ago) all is going well.

so ill go ahead and say that if any ninja gets destitute and needs a soft bed and a warm meal, let me know and you're welcome on any of my properties... just be prepared to do a little work (nothing harsh, i assure you)

...it really gets you in touch with your true human self, being so close to nature and eating what you produce, i love the feel of planting each years crop in rotation (im no pencil pusher)

would definitely looooove to have you here! need a similar-minded producer to talk tech-nerdy with on the farm

although i should warn you that the 2 farms of mine that have wi-fi are Hare Krishna-esque, so be prepared for vegetarianism (not veganism, it's weird)...

im positive you'd fit right in, hit me up when you're ready, i promise it will be an experience to remember!

i applaud your insight into my master plan

but really, i just hope to offer people the opportunity to return to their nature..

democratic, self-sustaining, organic lifestyle... thats all i want, and the people i support are on the same level...

even if it hits the fan, i know that i'll (we'll) have a retreat to nature, for as long as it may last...
