I'm going to be studying abroad in china either next summer or fall, does anyone know if dubstep has a following there? it'd be pretty cool to check out while I'm there.

You should definitely check Hong Kong if you can, the nightlife there is amazing.K1NGPIN wrote:Shum wrote:In my experience, HK has a couple of nights that will play dubstep (can't remember the names, might pay to check the events forum). Hopefully something will be going on when I'm there. I'll be in Shanghai or Beijing but I wouldn't mind going to Hong Kong.

I have a few friends over there which always helps, particularly when it comes to language (the more Cantonese you know, the better). In saying that, a lot of the (younger) people over there have a good grasp of English anyway and are friendly. I've never encountered any assholes the 5 times I've been there.K1NGPIN wrote:Shum wrote:You should definitely check Hong Kong if you can, the nightlife there is amazing.K1NGPIN wrote:Shum wrote:In my experience, HK has a couple of nights that will play dubstep (can't remember the names, might pay to check the events forum). what was it like for you? I've read online about stuff but hearing it from different point of views would be great..especially from someone with a similar taste in music!

Im part of a crew called Sub-Culture in Shanghai. We do a monthly event at The Shelter (a club) which has been going for three years and have had guests such as Kode9, Shackleton, Pinch, RSD, Clouds, Desto, Alex Nut, Floating Points, Dam Funk, Distance, Harmonic 313, The Bug, Goth-Trad, as well as inviting other crews from around asia (Dubway from Bangkok, Kongkrete Bass and Heavy from HongKong, Barefoot from Kuala Lumpa, Dublate from Manila, etc). There is quite a bit of dubstep and good electronic music in Shanghai, if your coming here check out The Shelter and Dada (both venues), and come down to our nights, plus events such as Antidote, ROM, Click and Bass-Ment, they all play a bit of dubstep
