I’m listening to a stream of his material on Zune (xbox 360), never really listened to his stuff before… I mean, I know he’s a legend and everything, no disrespect to his massive career in university and running hyperdub, but… these tunes are kind of… I mean, if he weren’t “KODE 9” but just some random kid posting on here… would you still like his material?

Some tunes work for me, some don't. I love Black Sun, it's sizzles out my speakers everytime it comes on. But stuff like 9-Samurai I never quite got my head round. It's like a bit too, I don't know, loopy grunge (?) for my tastes. But that goes the same for any artist, there are some Burial cuts that don't sit right with me.
You listen to stuff like his remix of Massive Music;
I haven't heard the original, so can't say how much of the original parts are used in the tune, but the remix is very simple. Let the beat ride through, and insert analogue bubbly synth squelch bits/spin backs/hits of bass throughout the song. Whilst it could be argued that this is a relatively 'simple' remix (and I use the word simple very loosely, no disrepect meant), but if I tried to recreate it using roughly the same pallette of sounds, I'm not sure I'd be able to.

^ all his stuff sounds like (albeit extremely well-mixed) soundcloud tracks from a beginner. I’m not hating, I’m just kind of scratching my head, wondering what I’m not hearing. I must be missing something…

The thing Ive always found with Kode9 is that his tracks incorporate so much dissonance that they are very rarely "easy" to listen to in the typical sense. I do think he is a gifted producer and, as mentioned, he does have awesome mixdowns.
Also Spaceape is rubbish. Honestly, I really dont get what the big deal is about this guy. No flow, hammed up false accent, and nonsensical lyrics that try and be all "trippy" and cool.

Spaceapes voice makes me instantly switch off my speakers. Can't stand the guy. As for Kode 9, as a producer yeah he's decent but as a musician I don't really rate him. He's got a couple of listenable tracks but I've never heard anything by him to make me actually go out and buy anything of his. There's a LOT better out there. Definitely over rated.

you guys should listen better to kode 9s sound...
i rate his music, especially the older stuff.
spaceape is nice too - gives dubstep for once a voice without being a testosterone-fueled MC who tries to spice up a party so hard that he fails.

he has quite a dreamy, stonner vibe to all his tunes, not the kind of thing i'd play to a crowd but at home in the right mood it's good.

play konfusion or 9 samurai on a massive soundsystem!
i did it - when the full sub dropped it was a real meditation (allrgiht - i was lucky with the crowd).
i'd do it again - you just need a massive soundsystem

For the record, he even admits himself, his productions ain't the most amazing things known to man but he (used to) create tracks what just oooze with "Dubstep" .. You know, that feeling you have when you listen to tracks what got you into the sound and you think "THIS IS WHAT DUBSTEP IS"
I guess I like him cause he was one of the main artists who I first got into, 9 Samurai being one of the (many) big hits in 2006! The whole "audio virus" thing, is what everyone called Dubstep for how fast its spread across the world and stuff...
Kode9 just reminds me of dubstep, how I remember it and to some extent still see it! Much more a nostalgic/personal thing than a out-right appreciation of his production merit! Saying that though - if I heard Curious on someones soundcloud today for the first time, i'd probably shit a brick.

KODE9 is probably the most offensive audio garbage I've ever had to share the air with, knowing that at any given time KODE9s amusical wank is vibrating in the air somewhere genuinely pisses me off. He's like a 4 year old child in a room with priceless ornaments, a big balloon hammer and no supervision. The only tunes he makes that are anywhere near even remotely good are his remixes, and even they make me want to take a cheese grater to my ears in the hopes that I can render my ability to hear useless before the track ends.
It pisses me off that everyone thinks he has some cool little penchant for dissonance and it's all a part of who he is as a writer. He doesn't, he's just musically illiterate, he's just an idiot with no actual knowledge of how to write music and good production value (I wouldn't launch a tirade against his production value because in fairness this is the only redeeming feature of his 'music').
He shows as much aptitude for writing music as Gary Glitter does for being a normal functioning member of society, he's picked up bits and pieces over the years like structure and arrangement (although, even those at times he seems to disregard) but it just pisses me off when you see somebody who hasn't invested the time into learning how to actually write getting away with it.
I hate KODE 9 with an almost intolerable and cancerous bile that at times feels like it's going to burn through my insides and seep into the world around me, kinda like when you shoot Alien and acid blood sprays all over your face. It seriously just aggrivates me so much knowing that you can make a reputation in music WITHOUT ACTUALLY KNOWING HOW TO WRITE MUSIC simply because the public's understanding of music is pretty much zero. I'm usually diplomatic about music because I understand it's about taste, and everyone's different, but when it comes to KODE 9 I change, and it stops being about taste and starts being about who's taste is developed enough to realize his music is shit and who's taste is crippled and diminished and needs to be corrected...
Oh and I hate the "he's just a marmite musician" argument. He's not. Marmite musicians usually display an ability to write, to be a 'marmite musician' you need to actually be a musician. He's not. He can't write.
Good producer, worst musician of all time. If you like KODE 9 I'm sorry but there is something wrong with you and you need to be corrected.
Those are my views, sorry if they offend.

okay so i understand that Kode9 is at the point in his career where he can slack off on his production and get away with it because he has the name, and some of his production is lacking, but some of it is brilliant.
i'm absolutely shocked to find some people don't like 9 samurai
