All this talk of Photek on the boards today has got me nostalgic, lots a memories of a teenager hitting dnb raves down in Plymouth...

Made me think of some of my first dnb nights the most memorable seeing Dj Die + Mc Tali in a small 400 capacity club called the Bus Stop in bus station back in 2003 and the massive "Legends of the Dark Black" nights at the Dance Academy, Plymouth (1 night being Kenny Ken, Ray Keith, Nicky Blackmarket and EZ Rollers in 2002).

Can remember them vividly, and was all so exciting- we hadnt heard of any of the DJ's, aged 16 in clubs full of seasoned ravers and we didnt even know how to dance/ skank yet....good memories.

Anyone else remember what their early experiences were or if it was only recently what was it?!

Went to the Custard Factory in Birmingham about 2 years ago and saw Hatcha/Sub Focus/High Contrast and a few others.
Was my first proper all night rave thing and also my first experience with stimulants (sadly it was mephedrone).
A brilliant night/not so brilliant next day on my first comedown aha.

Since then I've decided Drone is disgusting and I probably looked a right twat skanking out to Hatcha.

Amazing how much I've grown up since then really.

Definitely thought of this first....



But actually, never been to a rave... Underage and in fucking seattle no less. Just the few Dj's that come through on tour at actual venues.

Some freeparty up a mountain in south wales in late 06, someone sold us some 2c-i once we arrived. Was some shitty metal bands playing first, then a hard trance DJ (who gave us SHIT LOADS of laughing gas), then some psytrance DJs, then a darkstep DJ then the psy DJs started pissing about playing random tunes from about 7am onwards. Was a fun event, bout 200 people there, soundsystem was powered by a camper van and the location was awesome. Right on top of some mountain overlooking caerphilly, about a 5 mile drive up through some old beaten road. The sunset in the morning was pretty magnificent, and we found around 3g of coke in a baggy in the morning when my hippie mates persuaded me to help tidy the camp up a bit (since it was open farm land).

My first dubstep event was Monster Bass with Mala @ The Black Swan in Bristol in 08. That Mungos rig is still the best thing I've ever heard.

Dragged along by my housemate (who in hindsight was an utter dickhead), and told that in order to get into the club, we'd need to wear smart shirt/trousers/shoes. I remember being bored out of my fucking skull, unable to dance as felt dressed like a twat and rinsed for drinks.

Went back to the same night about four weeks later in trainers, dropped my first little one and it was like a different world.

DMZ november 2007 I think, back in the days when mass didnt give a fuck about ID always had (well still have) a baby face so never bothered risking trekking it to a club and betting boyed!

Was an amazing first night to go to!

first kind of rave, was 16 went to that free rave on the beach at southbank, was a pretty sick expirience

second was one of them lets go crazy ones at seone a few weeks later, we didnt know what to expext and fluked it into the guestlist in the que and payed less.

this was the second ever one though, before they started booking trolley snatcha and the like, and it was sooooo fuckin sick, so many people, all my age like wow this is mental, i dont think ive been to as big a night since i was underage, kind of wierd when i think about it.

first proper proper over age ting was dub police on fabrics birthday last year. had to sneak in because i was too high to remember the details on my fake id. got fucked on ket and mephedrone, skream smaked it. everyone else? meh.

Outlook Festival 2010. Some first rave!!

Always went to punk/grindcore gigs and festivals until I finally decided to go to Outlook. Was awesome! Trying to make it to a rave a month these days, got nothing where I live though.

I have absolutely no memory of what happened last week never mind 10 years ago, probably some gash trance place that my brother dragged me along to, putting me off electronic music for ages

i went to EDC 2010 when I was 15 to catch some basement jaxx. i wouldn't say that's really a rave tho. ive been to coachella several times and saw rave acts like tiesto/fatboy slim/crystal method, etc. since i was 13 though.

some warehouse in Blackburn where we had to climb through a hole in the wall after it had been snowing, slippy as fck but great night none the less would have been about 89. First legal rave was Raindance in Barking or some such the tube from east ham at about 8am on a Sunday morning was no fun at all.

I cringe when I hear legal/club nights called 'raves'.

Once you go to a decent free party, going to a club feels tame as fuck.

Saying that, DMT at Lakota a few weeks ago was fucking intense, wall to wall systems (literally), 8 rooms, half of them in disused courthouse. Was essentially a legal squat party. Something very poetic about people getting out of their minds in a former house of law.
