home use - get full open back - you'll likely need an amp and you can hear everything outside so it's not really good for being on the move.
recording use and djing - get closed back for obvious reasons.
anything else - don't be afraid to try semi-open backs! Make a good carry around phone and generally superior in sound quality to the closeback compadres. Akg k240 series are pretty good.

I have closed backs, which can get a bit sweaty on prolonged late night sessions. I regret them, wish I had opened back, but when I track with mics, I'm glad I've got the closed backs... the beyerdynamic 770's don't bleed into the mic at ALL.

yea my current cans crop
general listening - on the go - sony mdr v150, edm at home - shure srh750dj
dj - shure srh750dj
mixing/studio work - beyerdynamics 770, akg k240
tracking - audio technica ath-m45
but if you use the stickies up top and the search function and dsf google search this has been covered to death and then some generally on a monthly basis

Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO.
Really good clarity, very nice bass response, Closed back to block out nagging girlfriend.
After using these I wouldn't touch anything but Beyerdynamic. Best pair of headphones I have ever bought.
