computer has just kicked it i reckon, not sure how to fix it all my files, WIP's, patches, samples evrythaaang is un accessable

anyway the worst part is not the idea of losing all those projexts its more the fact i cant open up my daaww and make anything just feel really annoyed not being able to start beats and mess about in massive for shits and gigs

anyone else get like this?

This has never happend to me, but I think I would cry myself to sleep for about a week. I feel your pain bro.

where is captain hindsight when i need him as soon as i get everything sorted again ima buy a massive external harddrive so this never happens again, really bad times man

did your hd kick it or your mobo (or ram, or processor)
if it's just a component and not your hd your data is still easily recoverable

shitty to hear! everyone dreads that moment the computer calls it quits
but honestly... pretty stupid you didn't have anything backed up.
thats the #1 rule.
get 2 externals, that way you have a back-up of your back-up. just incase.

well hapefully it isnt lost completely hence the "un accessable" part becuase i managed to get it into safe mode and saw that its all there but i cant attach an external hard drive to it in safe mode as it just freezes the whole pc so i was considering taking out the hard drive putting it in another computer and then backing it up from there and then just formatting the hard drive and re installing windows

probably shoulda rephrased the original post its more that i cant get at it thats the annoying part its not lost there is still hope!

and yeah i agree completely stupid of me but i had the idea that "oh it will never happen to me why should i go through the effort of backing stuff up" then it happened and i am regretting not doing it

I have no backups, except like a 2 GB USB, with a partial amount of my files (The important stuff?)

ha did you kick it or summing? ive had to buy a new heatsink for my processor a while ago becuase i decided to kick my tower so the little pins holding it on to the motherboard snapped so that was fun

and yeah if this thread actually could be anywhere useful to production it would be

Haha nah mate it was stupider than that, was watchin bleach one mornin just chillin on the sofa, n i got so into bleach so when i went to take a sip of my tea n then put it back on the table, i wasnt paying attention n i kinda just dropped the mug like an inch abouve the surface n spilled tea all over my laptop, shud have seen me, dont think ive ever got off the sofa so quick, literally flew up, but it was too late, totally fucked it, now everythime i have tea anywhere near my laptop im like super carefull lol.

ahh shit man i love tea always drinking it! ive had many near misses with this like putting it down right on the edge of my desk or summing shit myself everytime!

I've lost a lot of stuff due to me not backing things up. I got a 1tb external I keep all my samples, VSTs, patches, project files and all that stuff on. Then I have a 2 gb USB drive that holds a second copy of all my project files. I don't really backup everything right away, and I should probably get in the habit of doing that. Maybe if I did it more often it wouldn't be such a pain in the ass. I can't stand just staring at my computer watching an upload bar as I move everything from my laptop to my externals.

Yeah I'm sorry to hear about that man. I have learned the lesson already from having a power surge a couple years back fry my hdd's. Now I have 2 hdds in my computer that have copies of everything on top of that I regularly back all those files also onto a 1.5 tb external drive which I keep unplugged when not in use (because a strong enough surge could potentially fry both the drives at once so its good to have something unplugged). Also invested in a battery backup to help reduce the chance of a surge causing trouble. PARANOIA FTW!!!
