Hi,
i was re-listening some of the old rusko , caspa etc dubstep and i was thinking how i could make something like that.
i''m searching how i can improve my 'reggae skanks' , out of the piano on fl comes a quite good sounds but i want a sound like dutch flowers from skream ( i'm not trying to copy).
Also my question was , for a good sub do i need to cut it to +- 60 Hz? or lower?
And i wondered if someone knew some good vst's for trumpets/horns ?

i usually cut my subs with a 24 LP at 70 Hz.

dutch flower isn't actually a piano if i remember correctly (i don't have the song here and i'm to lazy to look it up), but an organ. Organs are easily synthesizerd also, just mess around, you'll get there evenually.

And dub is actually a hell of a lot older than skream and rusko and caspa. They're still considerd dubstep

for real world instruments i'd always use samples rather than synths. look for some nice samplepacks i'm sure loopmasters or so have some.

as said above, use organs for a reggae feeling. i think hammond-organs were popular, there should be a lot of vst's emulating that. just search for 'hammond' at kvraudio

good sub doesn't need to be cut, just use a sinewave for sub and play notes low enough. maybe distort/saturate it a bit to make it sound warmer, then i'd lowpass it 70-100 Hz, depending on where exactly i have my kick.

the skank... i dunno man, i'd sample that too but that's just me being a lazy tnuc

Cut at 30Hz I'd say

For a nice reggae lead you can get an organ or piano, put notes on the 2nd and 4th quarter bar and reverb/delay them accordingly, sounds good.

No way. None. Dont exist. Sample em youll never get it right, and thats what those gys in your original post would have done anyway.

Open 3xOsc itll have an organ up by default, enable the voluem envelopes in the ins tab though to make things stabby... Reverb, filter, dub delay, phaser/flanger... Dub delays hi-pass signals and distort as they ringout. Use sevenths too btw. Maj7/Min7 - alternate em, call yourself tubby.

you can always get a hardware organ too. The nord electro 3 for example is EPIC.

mate ive seen real hammonds going for like 200 quid on ebay.

not very practical but still... im seriously considering it.

Aside from an organ you could also go for an electric guitar.

Basic A, trust me, they do exist. I forgot the name, i'll get back to you. They're quite expensive though.

I remember one that was called "Davis" or something like that ..... supposed to be able to recreate the sound of Miles Davis.

Needless to say it fell well short........

my subs i usually drop the vol in a lil window like 60-90 hz to make a lil room for my kick, boost 20hz a tiny tiny bit and low pass it (depending on what synth im using, some dont need it).
I usually run the kick and sub through the same compressor as well. At a nice high ratio with low attack and release. Then drop the threshold and you here the kick kind of slot into place with the sub.

I'd be pleasantly surprised to come across quality horn synths. From what i've heard it seems like an oxymoron.
