Resampling trick for Logic 9 Users

Hey guys,

Something I figured out yesterday that is a pretty solid trick for those of you on logic. Basically, I started with a bassline in massive, and then used the bounce in place feature to bounce it to a new audio track. One of the options for bounce in place is to bounce the new audio to a selected track. So after bouncing the bassline down the first time (to a new track), I right click on the new audio region and pack it in to a take folder. Then, I go back into massive and adjust the LFO rate to something new and bounce it down again. FROM NOW ON every time I bounce down the bassline at a new rate, I first select the new audio track that the take folder is on, and then choose the "selected track" option under "destination" in the "bounce in place" menu. This way, you can have tons of different "takes" of your bassline, with different LFO rates, different notes, single notes at different LFO rates, and so on, ALL within a single take folder. From there you can use quick swipe comping to quickly comp together a pretty sweet bassline. I take it one step further and chop up the take folder, placing different parts on different audio tracks with different FX, which you could also kind of do by going back in to massive or your synth of choice and making some changes in there, and then bouncing the bassline down into that comp folder, and comping a take that way.

Not exactly sure how to get screenshots in to this post, but I do have some if anyone is curious.

Hope this helps someones workflow.

Cheers! :Q:

also, if you want screen shots, use the 'grab' application. i believe it comes standard on macs.

Nice post OP. This really helped me. Except I don't have the bounce to selected track option ever available its always just grayed out....

Nevermind figured it all out. Again thanks for the post!

When I convert my tracks to new sampler tracks they sound like complete garbage. It will sound great then I will go and convert it to a new sampler track then it just goes to shit, its almost like it looses all the depth, the sound totally just goes flat. I even extend the notes that the sample can be played on and nothing seems to help. Any tips on that?

Urm, yeah exs24's default volume is set to -6. Try bumping that up to 0 again for the same vol you had originally. Im not saying you have bad ears, but 80% of people regard a quieter sound as being , as you put 'flatter' and not as good.

Nice tip, threads like this remind me that I really need to upgrade to logic 9 when I've got the money.

Bounce in place is so sick, great feature. Didn't know about 'take folders' though, top tip, thanks! Getting some good Logic knowledge on here of late, great for those who have just moved onto it like me.
Nice tip. also look at the right click 'Convert to new instrument track'. now the audio is in in the exs24 sampler!
Done it again Dep! You thought about having a 'Depone's Logic tip of the week' thread? Safe wisedom mate, cheers.

simple tip by the OP hopefully it will help those frustrated beginners when there Logic keeps crashing from too many instances of a certain VST. But Depone has helped me on this big tip and big up!
