Trouble Making Leads & intros

Hey guys!
Hope some of you pros can help me out,
im having a very large amount of difficulty in producing solid lead synths lines or intros with anything i use.
i do not have problems producing drum or basslines....when it comes to lead synths i m left clueless, i as well tried to use arpeggiators as well with no luck....i not really a fan of presets as well....
im using albeton's live 8, massive & reason 5
if anyone has ideas or can steer me in any direction it would help alot.

Are you referring to programming the synths to get a lead sound, or else actually writing the notes to make a lead pattern/melody?

Ok then...
For the programming...choose a patch that you like in a synth that you are familiar with, then try and recreate it from the default 'blank' setting on that synth. For example, try and make your own version of Brutal Electro in Massive from scratch. You'll become more familiar with what settings affect what parameters on the output of the synth,
For the writing...download some MIDI files of tunes you like/are familiar with. Open then up and see what notes work in relation with what other notes to make what sounds. Also, Google 'Basic Chord Theory'.

TIP - Once you've recreated the envelope, save it as an Envelope Preset for further use. Make a few changes to get a different sound, then save that one too. Do this a few times, or anything you get something interesting. If it later turns out the Presets you've saved aren't worth using, you can always delete them.
