Now I've had a search across the production forum and gone through too many google results but didn't find anything majorly helpful for what I am trying to achieve so I thought I'd make a topic. If other posts similar to this exist I'm sorry please feel free to link me through to them.
Basically I am using Reason and trying to make that really distorted mid/hi-end tearing sound used by the likes of kutz, skream, 16-bit, emalkay, etc etc (see end of post for examples) and using a tweaked sinewave through the scream distortion unit just doesn't cut it. I don't want a whole tutorial on how to make the sound (though that would own) but any pointers would be majorly helpful!
Also because I know someone will troll and reply "noob l2google"; I am a noob at production (why I'm here) and google sucks more than yo mama!
Peace!
Leechy
The closest thing to the sound I'm trying to acheive are these:

Read the mid-range bass tutorial at the top of the forum. Plenty of advice on distortion.
Sine wave is definitely not hte way about it though - try saw.

True, but there are a lot of points on distortion
Also - and I think this is most important - when it comes to distortion - more dry than wet!

I shall reread all the posts when I get a chance, production takes up too much time and I have uni exams!
Its amusing there are so many "sound like borgore" youtube videos yet if you try a skream related production search you get nothing. You'd think there would be way more skream videos as he's big in the game and been around since the start, but alas the kids all want their bass to speak to them like borgore or something.

Dubstep is becoming commercialized - and Skream doesn't appeal the masses. That's why he's adjusting his style to be more poppy.

Whaa? Skream has always appealed to the masses, probably more than any other dubstep producer I can think of. He's responsible for the first dubstep tune that appealed to the masses. I think that's part of why he's in the position to make poppier stuff in the first place.

I guess that depends where you're from. He certainly doesn't get that big a wrap in Australia, as most the people here absolutely love their brostep.
