I had my first shot at resampling last nite after seeing Spor play on Wednesday night and losing my mind.

Actually turned out okay considering I have never tried before. Only issue is - It is all too random. I mean I play a long note. Modulate a comb/BP/notch filter and resonance and pitch. Put distortion on it. Add harmonics and saturation. Put a phaser on there and get some "vacuum" Noisia sounds going BUT I am struggling to actually control 'specifically' how this sounds. Does that make sense? And I mean I rinse & repeat the above process and have gotten some gnarlier and gnarlier sounds BUT I am still struggling to actually create the 'specific' sound in my head.

Is it just a matter of practice and time OR is there a few techniques that I could use to better control my output/outcomes OR is it always just random and then you chop and change the parts you like?

Resampling is a very practice / experimental based art that does take practice to eventually know what you're trying to create. Rather than worrying to much about how the effects sound over time (IE the phaser firing off) just bounce the resample, chop and rearrange alot of "filth" sounds work like this.

haha, I raised a very similar I"m issue with resampling a few days ago - basically just getting my head around how exactly you control your basslines.etc. after resampling and the short answer is... well - you don't.

You kinda have to have an idea as to what you're wanting to achieve, and keep versions of the bassline at each iteration so you can go back and change it up for different parts of the track.

However - one thing to keep in mind is - less is more, when it comes to resampling. Especially if you're resampling over and over. For example - 10% wet each iteration with whatever you're doing. At the end you have a phat bassline to play with

Another trick is actually working with the sample. How you work with it and what sampler you're using makes a big impact on how well it sounds (imo).

Going to be giving it a go tomorrow. Havn't done any resampling yet, so this should be fun...

After seeing Spor play and listening to some of his productions I decided to give it a shot.
Such appreciation for all those guys (Calyx, Teebee, Noisia, Spor or Phace) 'cause their sounds are ridiculous.

After doing it a bit more I am slowly getting an idea of how to do it but its still completely random and most of the time I am just putting FX on their with random modulation and have no real idea how the sound is going to come out haha. Sorta exciting but also confusing. Still getting some pretty decent hoover, phase-y, reese sorta shit coming out.

So pretty much I just gotta stick at it and keep practicing. Nothing else to it.

So true, all about experimentation. Looking forward to giving it a shot later, after everyone's awake
