For the first part of the Golden Globes last night, he was fucking hilarious;

I'd like to quash the rumours that the only reason The Tourist was nominated was so that the Hollywood Foreign Press can hang out with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. That is rubbish, that is not the only reason - they also accepted bribes.

While introducing Robert Downey Jr - "Many of you in this room probably know him best from such facilities as the Betty Ford Clinic and Los Angeles County Jail."
But then he went AWOL for about an hour, and when he came back he massively toned it down

De Niro gets British humour though. There was a clip of him a few years back doing an impression of one of the Big Brother contestants on some talk show over here; the man is clued up way more than RDJr, Hanks/Allen and any of the other 'stars' that turned their nose up at some banter.

Thats just De Niro's acting face... its in all his movies... he actually hates Ricky Gervais, he just doesn't know how to act any other way
