......sound, not the bassline
I was listening to the village and it sounds like everything made of metal, not just the bass. How does one go about doing that? I would think he'd need to do a similar process to all of his audio. I don't necessarily wanna make a song like him, but it'd be cool to apply this concept to make different sounds other than metal
ya know?

Phaser flanger tight assed delays( I'm talkin 1/64ths n shit). that will make anything sound like it's made outa metal.
Ring modulation frequency shifting. I'm sure theres even more but that should get ya started. If you try the delay route, use a good delay that lets you mudulate the delay time for some fucked crazy shit (shitty delays just distort in an ugly way).

Not sure where you're getting the metalic sound out of the track. I'd say it's more of a "reese" sound than metalic. Albino 3 most likely, chorused, flanged, distorted, and ofc a "reese" :) Asfar as reverb goes on that bassline. Doubt there's any... As well as delay...

my way to go about it, insert return track. put a high pass filter on it, then reverb (adjust tail and dampening for the particular sound) with 60-100% wet, then through a mono phaser on there. makes it sound as if the audio is now reverberating through a metal casing or something of that nature.

he meant the whole track in general, not just the bassline...theres definately some reverb/delay in there, even on the bassline.
and i just listened to the track, couldnt quite understand in what way its metallic either, but all thats been mentioned before will
give you a metallic sound

No, there's not a 'make everything sound metallic' effect involved and you can't expect an fx chain to have the same effect on 2 entirely different sounds. You need to consider each element individually.

So what's sounding metallic in this tune ? The hats, the snare and the atmospheric elements at ~ 02:00.
* Hats are made of metal, that's basicly it. Add some subtle distortion to emphasize it.
* Snare : layer a metallic impact sort of sound with your main snare and you're done.
* Atmospheric elements : there are many ways of making atmospheric metallic sounds. Amongst others : timestretching metallic sounds, distorting resonating sounds, FM synthesis, convolution reverb, ...

Apply the same reasoning for any "color" you want to give to your tunes : how do I make my hats sound organic ? how do I make my bass sound like it's been sampled in a factory ? whatever

If you are talking about the metallic sound in stuff like datsiks southpaw, then I always thought it was a shit load of fast delay :D :5:
