Sounds painful man I've not heard of this before.
I've got 2 ideas.
First make sure the plug ins are activated in the AU manager in logic (tick box is ticked basically)
Second make sure your installing the AU version of the plug (it's a long shot but maybe the NI installer has been selected as "custom" and you haven't selected the AU version)
Oh actually i've got a third - find logic express in the applications menu. Right click and select "get info" make sure "Open in 32 bit mode" is selected.
It could be that your loading up the 64 bit version and your not seeing them in the right place because of the 32 bit AU bridge (another long shot but worth a look)

I believe when you install new plugs you need to drop them in this folder:
Macintosh HD --> Library --> Audio --> Plug-ins --> Components
You need to drop the .component file in that folder. Least that's what I've always done and its always worked.

you sohuldnt need to place them in any folder at all, hyour mac/logic should recognise the software
as for massive and all those things, they simply will not show up in the inserts....they arnt an effect(you may of already knew that just going off how you worded your questions)
you should just be able to install them, open logic, on startup it should scan your mac for new software and they should then be in there

To take screen shots with your Mac its
Shift + Command(apple) + 3 to take the whole screen
Shift + Command(apple) + 4 to select what you want to take screen shot of
Then you will have to upload that image to an image hosting website, from there you will put these tags around that images URL from the website:

And boom you got an image in your post.

To check if your opening in 32bit mode....Goto your applications folder, find Logic Express, press COMMAND + I, that will bring up the "Get Info" window, and there will be a little check box in that window that says "Open in 32-bit mode" check to see if its checked, if not, check it!
EDIT:
Maybe this is it...Massive, Kontakt, etc are going to be at the bottom of the software instrument list, where there is a little break in the list where it says AU Generators, AU Instruments and so forth, check the AU Instruments one, that's where they should be.

this is what should be looking at when you right click the logic app and select get info
notice the ticked box next to "open in 32 bit mode"

Yeah your on logic version 9.0 you need to update to the latest version and see if that sorts it but your already in 32 bit mode so it wont be the 64 bit issue i was thinking of. Update and see if that sorts it.
