I forget what the team's/company's name is that makes padawan is, but they have a few other cool ones too. I think it's "Peach" that is a cool little 8-bit synth.
I've been waiting for someone to bring up padawan on here. I also think that Crazy Diamonds (though a string synth) can add some nice layers to a pad (layering, in my limited opinion, is what makes a pad).
Also if you are feeling lazy padawan has a nice randomizer function.

i know there logic only plugs but recently got some really nice results using Es E for bass/mids, Es P for mids/highs and then Es2 for some modded highs, but unless you have logic this wont help much,

Have you ever tried DCAM Synth Squad? Its a bundle of 3 plugins. One for bass/leads(Strobe), on which is FM/Audio Rate Modulation(Cypher), and one that is specifically modeled for strings and pads (Amber). All three sound absolutely amazing man.

Isn't synth squad expensive though? Last time I checked it was like 300 quid or something mad.

Honestly, Reason combis have the potential to make some of the nicest pads if u go nuts with the devices available.
And if you have USD $479.99ish to toss around, Spectrasonics Omnisphere.
... if yer still lookin for more
Also doesn't synth squad come with one more device made for stacking/morphing between the other 3 synths?

I couldn't get on with Crystal. I actually make most of my pads in Massive...
Absynth is awesome for pads, but the interface makes me want to stab my eyes. I will sit down and learn it if it kills me though.
