Loooots of space.

Also VERY tightly chopped up vocals so you get these little squeaks and bops about the place. If you've used more than 2 notes in the song, you've probably gone wrong somewhere. Bar pitch bends.

It could be minimal, depends what else is going on, you got a clip?

I'm still not sure what you mean by "minimal" you on about minimal techno, or something else?

i've had this on my mind about the fantastic parts of dubstep a bunch recently, so i'll write more when i have more time.

but basically: it's all about subtracting things until you're left with the barest ghost of the original idea. a sense of separation is paramount-- it's the essence of dub, and "minimal" stuff is largely dub to the nth degree. Create.

Remove.

Remove, until you're left with something that feels like you're teetering on the edge of having nothing at all.

THEN start talking about reverbs, delays, etc-- but until you concieve of something like that, you've got subtract, and replace with space.
