Just listened to the Rusko Radio one clip on here and started thinking...

Can someone who has made such a name for himself in what most people on here call Brostep be taken seriously if he started making stuff closer to dubstep? I know musically the guy has it and it wouldnt surprise me if he did a u turn and came back with something fresh but is it a case of being labelled as something and thats not gonna change? It seems to me that he's already making moves and as we all heard he regrets and rejects the US ways of "melting faces".

It interests me if I'm honest as I'm fighting a musical battle in my own head atm... Rusko's words "Its gone to far" are exactly what I think. I host the Afterdark show on Sub FM, if you dont know its always hosted the dirtier side of Dubstep and why back when we had Breakstep we heav and have supported stuff which this forum labels Brostep but of late I've had a crushing time in the studio, nothing seems to excite me about this sound anymore, I'm not into taking what one man did and making it harder, faster n louder! For me I've created a new project as I feel if Itchy Robot came out with some chilled melodic stuff that it wouldnt be taken seriously but could I be wrong?

I'd like to think that the music would do the talking but then again some of the stuff I've read on here makes me think is the hate so strong that whatever happens you could never be taken seriously?

IMO if Rusko was to go back to the deeper stuff then I think it would be due to $$$$. He just seems to follow the money rather than doing it for the love no days. Fair play he needs to make a living, but I just dont see him as I once did.

However i dont think this applies to everyone, if Funtcase or Trolley Snatcha were to make something deep and it was good, then i would have no problem with liking it. (Eg like that track on Trolley's One Trick Pony EP.)

Alias' may be the way to go though, as im sure if Funt bought out a deep track he would upset alot of his brosteppa fans!

Brostep is a novelty that's starting to wear off (i hope). I don't seem to be exposed to as much as I used to.

I think people can redeem themselves, but it is entirely down to the artist to stay diverse, Skream for example. Does tunes like Shot Yourself Again, but on the flipside theres really abstract stuff such as the David Lynch remix.

Do you think for him its about the $$$'s though? I would have thought by now he has earned enough to sustain his smoking lifestyle! Just listening to that interview snipet it sounds like he is moving back to melodic sounds and from what I've read with his working with Burial its deffo looking like he's coming back! Personally I am pro that but I get why people might not be whcih is why I asked the question.

Agreed but the stuff I get sent these days... Shredder tech brostep! Its like they have to push it just that lil bit further but imo its becoming a bit of a joke now. Dont get me wrong, I've always liked to go a bit mad in the dance but of late I even find it harder to mix in clubs cos the sounds just so fuckin noisey! In the studio nothing excites me about that sound now, I find myself making deep low end stuff now cos the sub (reason I got into dubstep) in brostep is lost!

Fucking just do what you want to do, don't worry about what it's labelled. If you enjoy something then do eeeeet.

But yeah if a producer is going to drastically change their sound, then a new alias is more sensible, otherwise you could alienate/reallypissoff an existing following.

Redeem is a word that would take certain cases alot of effort to do and in my opinion totally change what they stand for where there headed an all the rest of it...

Take rusko, woo boost video... what the hell was he playing at... if he was doing it for a total laugh then yeah i see.. but it really werent funny hes got the most plays for a dubstep video along side bengas baltimore clap and a few others and his is by far the biggest joke to the term dubstep and is a total mockery of it!! watching him prance round in that gash atire like that red cape and student bumbaclartt glasses... This guys too much. for me he'd have to do unthinkable things to get some real support from me tha lil jeb.

Honestly? Do you not think that its quite an achievement? I KNOW its Spears, I know its sell out but its quite a big deal to be asked to do something like that! I'd say thats why he did it, I'm sure he is comfortable in life already and doesn’t need the money when he takes so much for an hour set!

Why does no one ever think that you cannot both follow the money with some stuff and with other stuff do it for the love of making music? People always get boxed into one of the other.

Rusko clearly enjoyed making at least his early bro steppy stuff and it was no way a guranteed way to make money back then, it just since turned out that way. If anything that suggests that Rusko was one of the people who you can say definitely did not go into bro step because it was popular and hence money making.

On topic I reckon a new alias would probably be best. Rusko could easily go back to doing more subby stuff because people know that he has done that before and very well but if your name is totally associated with only one subgenre then maybe best to change. Also I personally wouldn't think of itchy robot as a name of a deep dubstep producer. Obviously names shouldn't matter too much but there is a thread here the other day about someone not getting booked because of their name

DJ Premier did Chistina Aguleria (sp?)'s album to rebut that point

anyway...to me...good music is undeniable...if he decided to go back to producing deeper stuff and it was good...i don't think anyone would care because they'd be too interested in the good songs

I agree a name has a lot of power, I know that if I sent out my deeper stuff to the contacts on my aim I'd get laughed at! Just when your as big as Rusko would you take a step back, create a new name and let the music do the talking?! Then again I guess big artist like that can change, so many artists in other fields change so why not hear I guess but my point was would he be accepted due to all the hate.

I'd like to think he would cos lets be honest - back in the day none of us could get enough of him, this forums threads had his name in a lot!

There's like 8 Rusko Brostep threads going down right now so I'll try not to just repost stuff.

I get that Rusko sort of "invented" Brostep, but the dude is obviously not a mindless meathead smashing buttons. It seems to me that Rusko is seriously just out to rage and have a good time. He still has his inner dub in him IMO, but he's just having fun raging in L.A. with a bunch of dumb Americans. I expect him to start releasing some more of the old great stuff ("Acton Dread", "Jahova", etc.)

As far as other Brostep artists go, I just refuse to listen to it so I can't really comment. What is some quintessential shit? Borgore, Datsik, Excision, and Flux Pavilion?

I don't see why not. I'm not gonna hold a grudge against Rusko for his part in the Brostep scene. Whether he is doing it for love or money is irrelevant, either I like the track or I don't. He's still got a lot of people in the Dubstep scene that respect him, myself included. If he want's to go deep, I'll respect that and support him.

Heard it. To be honest, I enjoyed OMG.

If someone plays me a track and I like it I dont care who its by, however I generally dont go out of my way to listen to tracks by people who I know produce music I dont like. So on chemical or redeye I wont listen to some artists, but if someone plays me one of their tunes I will judge the tune on the tune rather than on who made it. I dont know if that makes sense but I had a long weekend...
