Powering a TV with energy from a stationary bike was a good enough idea, but it’s gotten way, way, way better than that. Sustainable Dance Club is producing ‘piezoelectric’ dancefloors that generate energy from the action happening on top of them.
The New York Times just profiled a club in Rotterdam using a dancefloor to power its light show, and it’s turned up in London, too. While the inventors are still improving the tech and say that currently the “average” dancer powers half a lightbulb, we’re sure we could power an entire club all by ourselves.

What a great idea! Another reason to tell the head nodders it's ok to get loose!

Interesting link, though clicking through to the article from the New York Times who apparently 'just' profiled a club in Rotterdam actually links to an article on this club from 2008: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/24/world ... wanted=all
Which is all cool, but it appears this club has now closed: http://www.sustainabledanceclub.com/?t=projects&p=4Club
'WATT is closed.
On June 16 Club Watt unfortunately closed its doors. Rotterdam's steering committee lost their positive view at WATT and didn't see new business opportunities to save the city's biggest pop stage. With or without the sustainable innovations, the costs for running the organization and renting the building were too high. Unfortunately WATT had no other choice but closing. Ask the visitors about their opinion and everyone will tell you it is a big loss for them and the city.'

Great way forward but use of more sustainable materials in general construction would also help

They should hook something up to beards for the chin strokers.
