NI MASSIVE and FL Studio, tips for a beginner?

Right so, this is my first post on the forums (yay I guess), and I have have a good look around the site for tutorials for how to make sounds you hear from the pros like Datsik, but I'm trying to find a place where I can learn about the synth it's self, so I can understand what I'm doing with it and then how I'd make the sound I want.
I'm not great with producing, but I really do hope I can learn as much as possible. I'm using FL Studio 9, does anyone have anything bad to say about using it if making dubstep? I do have Reason 5 and Cubase, but neither are as simple as Fruity Loops.
Thanks guys, really liking the forum so far.

Also try YouTube, there are a lot of great tutorials for both.
Manuals are a great resource, but it can be helpful to see exactly what they are doing.

Like I said in OP, I'd rather not just look at videos saying 'YEAH YOU CAN MAKE DOCTOR P SOUND DO THIS AND THAT, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT DOES BUT IT WORKS', I wanna learn how it works :3

There are definitely videos like that.
Also learning how to make different synth sounds w/ massive, or learning how to make different genres w/ FL will help you learn the "why" and what does what.
Not sure exactly where you are at (you mentioned "you aren't great")
I would do/watch/work along with a bunch of basic FL tutorials on just how to use the program, or how to make a certain type of song. This will give you the skills and speed to work comfortable on your own tunes
Then I would start working through Massive, learning how to make different kinds of sounds, etc.
Soon enough you will have a good feel for both.

OP don't let anyone tell you that you can make dubstep in flstudio, cubase or reason. None of those programs will really work. You can get half way there, but if you really want to go all the way and make pro dubstep, you're going to need to get Digital Performer. All the pros use it, but no one talks about it. I'm sick of their snobbery, so I'm letting the secret out.

I heard Noisia use a desk fan, a paper clip, a whoopie cushion, and Audacity.

Think that site can effectively be used in two ways:
One, when you have a specific question for a type of sound, go there and investigate.
Two, when you have idle time, go there, let your fancy choose, and just learn how to make a sound, or use a specific synthesis technique.
