Hey guys,

I'm feeling a change of DAW coz I've been to my mates studio and noticed he uses Pro Tools (which looks and sounds a lot better than Fl studio which is what I use). I have also noticed this DAW is not much talked about on this forum and would like to hear your thoughts on this.

Also, a side question... If any of you guys know... Is NI Massive compatible with this DAW?

massive is RTAS as well, which is pro tools capable. i suggest going back over and messing around with it. ive used pro tools before and it isnt the most fun to use. very very technical and far from user friendly.

Hmm to be honest i don't know about sounding better. I bet the audio engines are pretty similar in the end. Use whatever you feel comfortable with. In the end it really doesn't matter what DAW you are using, it just matters that you can understand how to use it and how to get it to do what you want in a timely fashion.

Mm, it sounds to me like your friends just a better producer than you and that's why it sounds better. Buying pro tools won't instantly make your sound more polished. Also think very carefully before buying it as it isn't VST compatible which can put a spanner in the works with a lot of plug ins.

LOL! so 100% true. trust me, he is gna b massive (he produces commercial "rnb"). Rnb isnt related at all of course but the DAW sounded more "polished". But ur suggestion is probably the correct one. To add to that, even the presets sounded crystal clear (like beyond the best wav quality lol).

I would not recommend pro tools, I think pro tools is great for recording and mixing but for actual music production and for creations sake I'd go with another DAW possibly logic or ableton!

I use pro tools for primarily audio production for movies (hehe learning how to do it at school!)

From my experience with Pro Tools I'd say it's only really worth it if you own a recording studio and record lots of bands. You can get VST to RTAS wrappers, I'm pretty sure anyway so the whole RTAS only thing can be overcome.

I liked mixing in Pro Tools (that may also partly be due to the mixing desk, hench monitors and nice outboard gear at the uni studios) but I hate arranging in Pro Tools. I also agree with the whole not user friendly thing, hell I found renoise more intuitive.

If you think your music will sound better in PT, your wrong.

A null test will have the same results. It's how you use FL or PT that makes the difference.

for: its great for audio/recording, its stable, fast and has amazing plugins

against: just about anything else you can think of

Exactly. If yo'll be likely to get OMF files and or have clients in linear media Pt is the industry standard. It;s like Nuendo and cubase, one is for music the other for post.

Many bands and some EM producers use PT though, it just a matter of workflow.

cannot automate plugins.
plain and simple.
im thinking of finding a different daw for this reason.

Yes you can, although you have to click on a button in the plugin window and then pick which parameters show up in the automation drop down menu.

which button this would make my life a lot easier.

sounds like someone needs to learn his current tools inside out before switching and loosing a shatload of hours...

i know my tools just find i am digidesign certified , at the time i took the course there was no automation.

I'd recommend 3 DAWs for producing EDM:

Live, Logic, and FL.

Pro Tools is a PITA.

if youre worried about not sounding good in FL, than im sorry to be blunt but youre severely ill informed. take a listen to: vaski, high rankin and basic a(whom is a member and makes some top quality tunes). they all use FL
