I'm not talking about track selection, having good connections on DUBPLATES, or how well known they are... I'm talking beat juggling on 4 decks with no headphones and no needles steeze. I'm talking drop the record and play, no stop, no chops, no flops. I see my thread about BAD mixing may turn south, so lets focus on the HOT PROSPECTS who never let us down. Actual mixing only, please.

Who brings the heat on the decks, any genre(I'll start):

DJ Ztrip: http://www.djztrip.com : brings the heat every time, every genre, every tempo. Pure turntable slammage.

Shiva: Sapphic_Beats on here. Dubstep remixing and Ableton sets, but I've seen this beast on 4 Decks and it weren't pretty--total annihilation.

Viceroy: Viceroy on here. Every mix I've heard has had LONG, Smoooooth, usually flawless mixes. One mistake I've ever heard in a mix, and that was when the cat was getting groceries for his mom or something. VERY long mixes, great selectah.

lots more to name, but there is the start. The idea is to point out some people who it is safe to listen to their mixes if you are so anal retentive about perfection that you can't finish a single mix, ever... these are a start.

thats nice, to be sure... but Best DJ's in Dubstep is subjective, so I narrowed it down. I don't care if they play dubstep, I don't care if they play trance... I don't care if they play country breaks...

PURE MIXING, nothing less.

I scanned that page before posting this topic and saw more than a few that didn't meet the requirements of actually being able to count to 32, let alone mix 2 pieces of plastic. Specifically, rocks a crowd--doesn't ever wreck a mix--holds insane mixes, insanely long--is basically a pimp on 2 wheels or more.



Moldy also fits into this group. Dub War 5 with Loefah, Dave Q, Joe Nice, Moldy and Juakali and Pokes... flawless mixing all night, which is rare in ANY style of music, but this nite was ACE.

Moldy ripped the damn place apart--don't ever let this guy open again, total mistake--I was dead by the end of the opening set of the night.

Z-Trip is a totally different dj to a dubstep dj.that 'turntablism' (shit word) shit isnt for dubstep dj's.
you talking about forum mixes (forumstep).
if u go to a rave or check rinse u wont hear any shit dj's.

just listened to his power 96 mix i downloaded of minus's website a while back... love listening to djs that have a proper passion for mixing.

Ben UFO's last mix had ridiculously tight mixing. Quantum Lines I believe it was called. Check that one out.

I'm only too aware of every tiny fuck-up in my mixes, especially if I've recorded it. Sometimes you have to accept it. Re-recording a mix 20 times because of one tune slipping out of time for a few seconds isn't really practical. I try my very best with EQing, beatmataching, phrasing and all that, but I just don't get the whole matching keys thing. I guess I'm tone deaf or something. Someone said "shame some of your mixes were out of key" about a mix I did and I had no idea what he was talking about.

I'd also say live mixing and recording a set to put up on the forum or whatever are very different beasts.

This is definitely true. It's not quite a different skill exactly, but it's different. Hopefully my mixing on radio/playing out is just about up to the standard of my studio mixes though, or at least recognisably the same DJ, otherwise I need to work harder.

DJing for me is an art, beat matching well for two hours without hardly and slips isn't easy and isn't something you learn overnight.

Being a good DJ you need to know your tunes inside and out, and know which tunes go well toghether.

For me selection =65% Skills on the decks = 35% It's like playing a card game, you can have all the best cards but if don't play them right they don't amount to nothing.

I don't wanna hear man clanging down the dance, no matter how good the tunes are.
Many DJ's on the board will probably now how its feel to hear a train wreck mix, it fcuking hurts because my brain is trying to decipher the beats, constantly working out what's wrong with the mix.

Don't get me wrong all DJ's like me and N-Type, Hatcha etc crunch every now and again, but there's a difference between a lil slip/crunch and full blown clang a bang session.
We have to take the risk in order to pull of fast mixes and double drops quickly but when someones been cueing up the tunes for 2/3 minutes and it's still loose like water molecules it doesn't impress me.

I think being a DJ you need to bring people on a journey, with High's and low's, not just one level ------------------- all the way through.

Also I get sent loads of mixes done on a laptop or cd's which is shite in terms of ability, it's ok for compiling tunes or showcasing music but there's no skill involved really when you can see the bpm and all you gotta do is move the pitch until both cd decks are displaying the same bpm.

Put them same dj's in a dance with two 1210's and lets see what happens.

cdjs are harder in a way cuz you can't see the grooves

i guess that goes back to knowing your tunes

vinyl is the easiest imo
