any1 thats knows Pompy will remember the Tricorn Centre, literally the ugliest building I have ever seen, used to house Laser Quest and a Virgin Megastore....

bizarrely just read techy dnb producer Raiden, on his long awaited LP, "each track is themed on a famous example of brutalist architecture" including >>>

very random, the tricorn lives on..

Tricorn was far from ugly. It only looked ugly because it was in an ugly cit that is often grey, overcast and miserable. If the tricorn center was in a country where the sun shines it would have worked much better.

Rodney Gordon was also the architect for the Get Carter Car Park in Gateshead.

each to their own, but nah.

You can put a shit in a nicer box but doesnt change the fact there is still a shit in it.

Explain why is it shit!

It's a piece of architecture that was a product of it's time and a style that was chiefly British even if the concept and idea behind the Tricorn was from North African bazaars. To say it's shit is like calling a piece of great art work shit because you either don't "get" it or simply don't like it. If you want shit just look at the current trend for neoclassicism - e.g. Barrett homes - they're all flat pack, off the shelf, generic pieces of architecture - about as unique and individual as a Tesco shop front.

I did not say it was shit, that was an analogy.
Since as early as the year after it was made it has topped polls for britains 'most ugly' and 'most hated buildings'.... I have to agree with popular consensus as it looks like this

No explanation needed really. They only reason anyone ever liked it was cos it was iconic, the fact it is ugly is pretty much undisputed (apart from you it seems) Not too sure what has to do with Barrett homes either, im pretty sure they build their homes to be ergonomic and cost effective rather than statements of architectural design and individuality
